I'm sure Hulu will have it up soon if not already.
Debate was great. Best debate. Moderator was EXCELLENT.
Obama had amazing self control in not attacking McCain and ESPECIALLY not attacking Palin when given the question of if he thought she could hold the office of president. Smart though, Obama is winning and any negativity might hurt him.
I try to be pretty evenly critical, and I thought they both floundered badly at the last debate, but in this one I think Obama kicked the shit out of McCain.
I might care about him if he didnt make more than 250k a year...
Well, to McCain that makes him just above the poverty line.
Did anyone else catch that McCain wants to tax health benefits which would in effect raise taxes? What next? Perhaps he can also tax workers on employers providing coffee and donuts at work ...
Really interesting debate, and I think the best out of the 3... I don't know, personally I don't see how Obama can lose, unless Mccain pulls a nice big fat rabbit out of his magic hat, and Palin wasn't it :P
Being an outsider, completely ignorant to everything that is going on, and watching that debate today, I would have to say I'd vote for Obama. Hell, even without that debate, I'd vote for Obama. He just seems more...... Cool.
The graph isn't there from the actual magazine, which is odd. Basically, out of 17 countries (including the US), Obama had a SIGNIFICANT lead.....except in the US where he was 2% below McCain. 0.o
“I don’t care about an old, washed-up terrorist. But as Senator Clinton said in her debates with you, we need to know the full extent of that relationship. We need to know the full extent of Senator Obama’s relationship with Acorn, who is now on the verge of maybe perpetrating one of the greatest frauds in voter history in this country, maybe destroying the fabric of democracy.”
Obama on Acorn:
“And I think the fact that this has become such an important part of your campaign, Senator McCain, says more about your campaign than it says about me.”
Anyone else think the Acorn "scandal" is McCain's way of laying the ground work for a Bush style coup? It's ok if he looses it just has to be close and in a state they can control.
I liked that McCain got the answers he was harping about over the last 2 weeks. Too bad they didn't turn out to be the answers he wanted to hear.
On a side note I think Firefox is partisan, it thinks McCain is a word but spell checks Obama. Conspiracy, I think so...
I wish Obama had hit McCain on a few points, but I guess he was trying to reduce the attacks to appear more calm. For instance, all that crap McCain was saying about correcting people (and suggesting Obama should do the same). Obama should have came back with, "When do you plan on correcting your running mate?"
The other thing was, McCain kept saying he wouldn't raise taxes... so does he considering ADDING taxes different than raising taxes? Because if he starts taxing my health care, then he's adding taxes that I currently don't pay. I don't care if I get a tax break at the end of the year if I'm going broke paying the taxes throughout the year.
He came across as erratic and antsy. The moderator pointed out how erratic was used in the attack ads, but he was being very erratic... so sorry, but the term fits. I liked how more active McCain was, but he had nothing to sway my vote.
I'm not going to encourage a debate on counting how many times each candidate blinks. I'll write up a more detailed opinion of the debates later. But, I did notice that McCain blinks an excessive amount when he's trying to piece together an answer that's favorable to him. Could that be a give away that he's lying? Either way, his answers never seems clear, when the questions asked would be more easily answered by Obama's stance on issues.
I just loved how well Obama was able to defend himself per allegation from McCain, especially that Bill Ayers crap :]
Milla - I think pretty much the entirety of Europe favour Obama by a pretty huge margin... Unfortunately it also tends to provide pretty biased media coverage over here.
Obama has his share of tells but most are pretty subtle. I'm not sure if I want to know when and if a president is lying... I'm not if I want other countries to know when he/she is lying either heh...
You know, I love how Obama completely debunked the 'joe plumber' issue paying more taxes, then McCain went right back to explain how Obama's going to tax the crap out of Joe. It's like he didn't even listen to the response.
Notman: He's probably counting on people who are undecided not listening to Obama's response either.
It seems a lot of the time in these debates a candidate will correct their opponent, only for the opponent to continue saying the exact same thing which was just refuted, but louder this time.
To people who aren't really following the debate fully, they might end up only remembering the last thing that was said, even if it was completely wrong and had been disproven only a minute ago.
Yeah, I agree... I'm just so tired of politics and the damn games. Just tell me what the hell YOU'RE going to do, not what the other guy has/is doing I guess that's too much to ask for though.
That's been ongoing for all these debates. McCain states a false claim, or a potshot, and Obama craftfully debunks it, only for McCain to continue pressing it. I think what's important to know is, while Obama is defending himself with answer...McCain doesn't have to answer for himself. Perhaps I strategy. I think Obama said it well, and was clear, when he said "this says more about your campaign, than mine".
Most Europeans i meet are in favor of Obama although during the primaries i met quite a few in favor of Hilary though. McCain is widely seen as more of the Buah era type of politics and Sarah Palin as flat out scary/funny.
Looks like Joe the plumber isn't actually a licensed plumber and his name is Sam.
The whole thing reminds me of the heckler in Happy Gilmore...
"Hey McCain I'll meet you at Red Lobster later right? Right!? Hello?..."
I find it more amusing that Joe (Sam) the Plumber is against Obama raising taxes on an income that he will never earn as a Plumber. I think it was cheap for McCain to invite him unwillingly into the debates. And I think it's silly to depict Joe as the average American. So far, according to the Republican Party, the average American either a) fixes busted pipes, b) drinks lots of beer, or c) fights in Iraq. Sounds like a dream come true.

I find the GOP sound bites totally unappealing. Joe Sixpack, Joe the Plumber, Pals around w/ terrorists, Hockey Moms, etc. Do people really respond to this shit.
I'm sorry, but anybody making over $250,000 isn't going to get any sympathy from me for having to pay a 3% tax increase.
btw, Sinfest is pretty great; I really give it to that guy for never missing an update deadline. He updates EVERY DAY; that's unheard of with webcomics.
Obama sounds like he "could-have" written his own material. McCain was funny but couldn't take his eyes off his note cards. But to be fair what he said about Obama sounded heart felt and like the old McCain. Hopefully if he looses he won't be a bitter old crank but an ally.

It was a good one. McCain finally showed some life and Obama showed how fucking cool and calm he is.

This Joe the Plumber crap was annoying as hell.
He is buddies with Joe Sixpack.

I'm expecting Obama to win, but would like to find out if I'm right, what the margin would be, and hoping to get a decent-sized sample while I'm at it
