Just picked up my copy on the way into work, will probably play a little at lunch, and will likely be glued to my projector this evening playing nonstop.
Got it and made the mistake of playing till 3:30 AM last night with a coworker. The game kicks major ass for my play style and is hilarious. I don't have any real gripes yet, playing the minigames is just too damn fun.
Ya, I picked it up yesterday. I have not got to far yet, just the prison escape. I created an awesome crack whore! So far it seems fun, I never played the first one.
Yea mostly did hats, shoes and such clothes for your character to pick up in shops, few of my favorites;
-the broken greek statue in the Saint's main HQ
-the bronze statue of the rich guy from the first game
-the halloween zombie mask.
I'll see if I have the go ahead to post up some of this stuff .
Hope everyone enjoys it, I love how its diverged from GTA into an over the top insane ride with all sorts of crazy missions.
Got home from work, was gonna just play for an hour or two, just stopped playing at ~3am... This game's sooooooo much more fun that GTA 4, *especially* in regards to the minigames.
Sweet, I hope any who play it enjoy it. I'm excited to see it finally out too. Elliot, it was awesome to have you aboard the project and I really wished we had worked together in person.
Steve-O, and EtotheRic, 2 other poly counters who worked on characters with me, where are you guys? Roll CALL !!!!!!! Boraxman! Zergxes! (level art)
Oh wow didn't know the character crew had some fellow PCers! Yea it was fun to come meet the team and chill in Champaign a few days. The project was cool to work out and Doug was great to work with. Can't wait for my copy to arrive !!!!
I loved the first one, even with the random crashes and bugs that would pop up. It was just a really fun and amusing game that kept me entertained for hours on end. I'll be doing a trip at lunch to pick up the game for the weekend.
Congrats to all the Polycounters that worked on the game.
Just beat the single player... am I missing something or was that whole clip from the trailer where your character is talking with Julius omitted from the game?
I know with the first SR there was that whole 'extended storyline' bit after the credits, but I've yet to see any of that.
I was playing pretty much all weekend. It took a while to get used to the way the cars handle after excessively playing GTA IV. The game definitely doesn't seem as polished as GTA IV, but I'm also assuming it had nowhere near the same budget.
That aside, it is a really fun game to play and I'm enjoying it just as much as the first one.
Going to have to get hold of this, liked the first one, didn't seem as lonely as GTA IV, probably due to the map being smaller. Agreed that it isn't as visually pleasing and some of the controls lack a bit of freedom but at least (I hear) the story is to be continued. Will have to stock up on gin and juice.
I'm liking it a lot, the health replenishing really makes me feel a lot more like a rambo-style badass than in GTA4. The enemy AI is insanely dumb however, more often than not they run straight at you, firing then stand in place. Another time when I had some gang members after me, I was standing around shooting people and two of them in a car sped towards me and straight into a pole, sending both thru the windshield and killing themselves. That's the main difference between the on foot combat in this versus GTA4, GTA4 everyone's ducking and popping in and out of cover or blindfiring, in this, you just run at each other akimbo SMGs blazing.

that actually sounds badass and funny.
I've encountered my share of 'dumb' ai, but really, I kinda like it. It makes situations so much easier to set up.

Haha, I'm with Skanker there, that sounds awesome/hilarious!
Have to say I found the combat a lot more fun in Saints Row 2 than in GTA4. Fells more fluid and less set up, just the plain ol' hectic mess that I find the most fun.
Oh, and has *anyone* seen Julius? I'm a little irked that I've been playing a few hours past credits, and still nothing about Julius or his disappearance, which was hinted at in the trailers.
I really like the dumb AI oddly enough, but I do find their enemies aiming ability is really inconsistent. I'd be taking on about 10 gang members and a few cops and won't get hit once, then after I've cleared them all I'll start getting shot at by a dude who is just within draw distance and seems to be sniping me with a pistol. Strafing only seems to make him more accurate!
One thing that I do find annoying is the speed of the cars that are chasing you. It seems like no matter what car your in, the car chasing you is just as fast, if not faster. I was being chased by cops while in my Superiore (pimped all the way with NOS as well), and even on a straight stretch of road I was finding it difficult to outrun them. The only way I could get away was by taking back streets and making a lot of turns.
Same deal for the escort activities, how a piece of shit news van is faster than the car you're given... Which is far from a piece of shit. It does make it more challenging though.
I think that kind of thing (chasing vehicle speed) just has to be considered one of the unavoidable nuances of a game like SR2 / GTA4. It's the easiest way for the devs to guarantee a uniform challenge for all players. I have to say, though, the chasers' ability to avoid roadblocks is definitely irksome at times, especially when I put some effort into leading them into a head-on collision or the like.

I've only been playing for a few hours but so far the gameplay is wicked fun. The level of character customization available is amazing too.
Looking forward to taking a crack at Coop/Multiplayer.

Quite a few Polycounters worked on it. Not me, though a lot of my stuff from the first one made a return (with some tweaks).
Who's on the 360 btw? - I might be up for some co-op play this weekend.
PS - Poor DanR
Oh yah, please thank whoever approved the checkpoint system in the missions.

I'm still playing Saints Row 2 every second day for a few hours as opposed to GTA4 which I hung up after a couple of days...
Once again, congrats to the PC'ers who worked on it.
