gametrailers.com really annoys me because they add like a white haze over all the videos.
I haven't noticed this before.. Maybe in this instance it's because they filmed a screen with their camera? That usually degrades quality.
Overall it was pretty cool, but there's something about the animation that's not overly convincing. Not that I have ever seen real Protoss and Zerg in action, so I could be wrong here..
Cinematic does look awesome, but ditto, the Marine one was better.
Maybe I missed it but...nobody has commented that Blizzard is splitting the single player campaign up in to 3 separate retail products? That seems pretty shifty in my opinion. "Why make them pay for it only once, when we can charge them 3 times!?"
If the campaigns are only 20$each, then it'll be ok. If it adds up to the normal retail price, I'm fine with it, but if they try to screw the consumer by demanding more? I think Blizzard will have earned a boycott of this and future products for me.
I don't have a problem with it, Scooby, as long as the campaigns are different and fleshed out enough to warrant a full price, even though they will probably be priced as expansions. Quality is key here, and if they don't have time to make three factions worth of high quality gaming, this is a good solution as far as I'm concerned.
yeah I actually thought about making a new thread to discuss the 'trilogy' idea.
personally, I think it's fucking bad ass. and it's not like they are cutting any content out of the titles (like you can ONLY play as terran or whatever), they are expansions like Brood Wars was.
as long as they are each a full featured game I think it's more of a reason to rejoice than anything. plus, if it's even 1/4th as good as SC it will be more than worth the cash.

As long as it's not another one of these marketing gimics that seems to be taking over the whole industry I'm fine with it. Does seem a bit odd, but if they can get the game out faster and then add to it for reasonable pricing, shouldn't be too bad.
my friends, it is a strange detail to role out. apparently blizzard has confirmed that all three races are available for multiplayer straight out the gate, so i don't smell any stinky-love going on.
ontop of doing this to obviously create more revenue from the project, blizzard gets to spread out the starcraft love, how 'bout it? eh? EH? effectively resulting in higher customer-climax and appreciation. you can't just go straight in for the kill gentlemen when there is obvious opportunity for a larger pay-off. "Wings of Liberty" is just a little nipple-twisting and foreplay. it gives them the opportunity to work on starcraft 2 longer, which as a blizzard developer, should sound pretty awesome. there is more time for creating more in depth missions, for more amazing cinematics, and give each race more loving.
That does sound like a substantial amount of content for a single-player game. But price is still going to be an issue. No matter how much I might have enjoyed the original Starcraft, I am not shelling out $60 a pop for all three entries. If the second and third entries are released with much more reasonable prices, I would be mollified. But even Starcraft can't convince me to shell out such an enormous amount for the full experience.
If, on the other hand, they charge around $30 for each entry, I'll buy all three. (for some reason paying $90 in staggered installments doesn't phase me) And I do like the idea that this strategy would get the games in people's hands faster.
bounch - I got the impression that each game would only have a single race's single player campaign.
no, I think this is still correct. I do mean however that all races will be playable multiplayer, which is what I'm assuming, seeing as they are likening it to SC + expansion
So i'm going to have to wait AT LEAST 3 years for all the campaigns?
If i remember correctly in the first game the campaign was like 10 levels long for each race. Brood wars was anther ~7 more and new units. The first game better have some campaign for all the races. Say like 30 levels for the humans and 5 for the others. Just so you can get some sort of update on their story.
I qoute this from the shacknews site, the most important news if u didnt read.
"Terrans: Wings of Liberty, will feature the main Terran campaign and a Protoss mini-campaign.
The second release, Zerg: Heart of the Swarm will contain some RPG elements, with the third entry, Protoss: Legacy of the Void sporting some diplomatic gameplay."
So they're doing it to allow themselves to experiment a bit - they get their pure game out on the market for all the competitive players that will storm fly into a beserk rage if the game doesn't play in exactly the same fashion as its predecessor, and then go back to the drawing board to test out some new elements. if it doesn't work out, they've still got their vanilla Starcraft 2 making raking in billions of Korean won.
It must be nice to have the kind of industry sway and money to pull off something like this.

with an opening statement like that, i get the feeling your a Mccain fanboy? Just curious.
This trailer is dope! but something about it just feels too real. I liked the idea that its fantasy. When its rendered hyper real, My brain switches from knowing its 3d, to thinking its real, then it starts to try and figure out why it looks slightly off =/ Kinda like when people do those hyper real sculpts and textures, but theres something in the eyes that gives it away that its fake. and you just focus on that.
Now that you've made me dig up the link and I've re-read it...could just be hearsay as its clearly the journalist who says it and not the blizzard rep. At least not specifically in that article.
awesome, cant wait to see their cinematic team discussion on weds....oooo baby, ill walk outta there with a tent in the pants. or maybe lighting up a cigarette....

Did you also see and conquer? But I do have to agree that Blizzards cinematics have that special pornographic feel to them.

That sounds all kinds of poop-dick.

but have they mentioned the release schedule?
that adds up, for what everyone thought would be one game.

All that said...I still think its true.
this is because they are encoding with sorenson, its a common issue with the compression technique...
oh and the cinematic is pretty rad..
but i have to agree that it's not as epic as the space marine one
