I think its a LOT better than the machine as a way to display your great art.
-I do think you should go with a more traditional icon = image format. Instead of icon = album.
-There's also usually a way to speed up the load/size change of the lightboxes. I recommend it.
-The Section 8 link is a bit confusing / strange right now. It just takes me away from your site with no explanation. I'm assuming you worked on it.
-The widescreen requirement to view your web site is a bit obnoxious or self indulgent of you. To me it seems similar to when a web site maximizes my browser for me or won't let me use the back button. I'm sure there are a variety of solutions for this. One would be changing the size of the page to more of a 900 wide type deal which would remove a lot of your dead space anyway. Looking at this further shows that you've constructed your page in a very difficult to manner. Not very conducive to updates or flexibility. Try background images and gifs?
Anyway hope thats not too harsh. Your artwork rules
dont worry IE is the bug (that's what I assume anyhow )
very big in dimensions and data to be loaded - not a website that wil perform nice for anyone. My rant would be that it is to much visual driven (everything is made of image slices including text) - you might have update issues with that later - not to mention the bloated data that has to be loaded.
As for the font I dont like the girly one "lonewolf" and something hard to read at the bottom.
Nice content- but like mentioned sometimes very big so big that it doesn't fit on my 1280*1024 screen
- the logo should be as attractive as the renders (bullets, trucks), if not flashier, in terms of values.
- the blood splat is unrelated to anything else
- ive noticed 4 different fonts in your design
- yes images are way too big
overall it is more fucntional that 'the machine', and i think it represents the other end of the portfolio-design spectrum. optimally, i believe you should have something in the middle.
good luck

-i tried it at first but i liked the icons better, just give your more of the 3D feel
-can u tell me how to speed it up? ill use it
-the section8 is the game im currently working on and i cannot show anything yet,
i put a year of work in that game by now and we still going. it gonna take the major part of my portfolio once its released (or releasing art) it says "coming soon" and the "alt" text should pop out too, kinda buggy, donno why
-the widescreen idea i got from the guys @ Cgtalk, it was originally vertical, since monitors are landscaped i went with a landscape layout, i personally use 24" LCD running 1920xXXX so everything is small for me lol, im sure everyone sooner or later will upgrade to that (its awesome, and i recommend that setup)
thanx for the crit man, i still might change things

Thanx man, i like it big, i believe every good render should be as big as possible
u can always scale it down and it should show all the details, i see alot of portfolio with small pics
and its annoying to see awesome art in low res so i sometimes email them asking for high res pics
( i like to collect art )
as for the font, might change that later, maybe even model the logo or something

that is a bad attitude to have, expecting everyone to upgrade for your website, rather than make it viewable to everyone. I have two 22", but I run my internets in windowed mode, as I've a shit tonne of other stuff running at the same time - especially when looking at portfolios. Resume up, cover letter, portfolio, etc... It's annoying to have to scroll a giant image just to close it, let alone see it. If you're hell bound on keeping it 1337, make it so I can just click the picture and make it go away.
I guess it comes down to the reasoning behind the website. Is it to show off your skillz to friends, or is it for potential employers?

Other than that, it's looking good. Nice art.
ok maybe i didnt sound right, im not expecting anyone to upgrade for my website but im expecting them to upgrade in general, cause that just the way it is, HD becoming a standard those days :P
u can click outside the pic to close it as well but if u click on it you'll get to the next image
(its album type)
btw
what rez are y guys running? whats the average? ill scale it down
It doesn't matter what screen resolution people are using. A lot of people don't maximize their browser window while browsing, so making a website 1300px wide is really only accommodating to people who have 1680x1050+ screen resolutions with their browser windows almost maximized.
I develop web applications for a living and I never design a site that's wider than 970px's. It works for people with 1024x768 and maximized windows (I doubt these people can browse in windowed mode these days) and accounts for scrollbars while still leaving some breathing room on both sides of the page.
If you changed your portfolio to a 4 column layout and keep all the thumbnails the same size it'll fit into my suggested width and will balance the page a lot better because you will have 2 rows of 4 thumbnails.
The download size is also quite large. If you changed it so that you had a header, a footer, and a vertical tiling background you would save a lot. It won't be as pretty because you don't get to keep all those details in the background but the page will load a lot faster. If a prospective employer didn't have a fast internet connection they would likely navigate away from your site before it finished loading. The average length of time that a visitor will wait for your page to load is 4 seconds. If it doesn't load that quickly they'll determine your site is wasting their time and they'll press the Back button and go through the rest of their Google search results.
I also noticed you're using a different set of images for the background of your contact page even though its the same thing. Take advantage of the browser's caching mechanism and reuse all the same layout images for all your pages. That way the visitors will only have to wait for the images to load once.
Also make sure you use the alt="" attribute in all your <img> tags (or use more text in the site) so that search engines are able to determine what the page is about. They can't read images.

It tells the browsers which language to use.

I don't really have any critics to offer as it is very solid, although I really don't like the flash image viewer.

You art is going off on 3 sides of my screen. It gets annoying having to scroll to the left or bottom left to close or see the next screen.

not harsh at all bro
ill check everything u said
thanx man
One thing I would do is put a link to the construction sheets of the item under the main thumbnail.
Looks nice though, but I do think that the M203 at the top isn't very... "representative", if you know what I mean. :shifty:
