It's an indie title, and it was my first gig. I got the job offer the day after I finished high school, and I've got polycount to thank for landing it!
I spent just under a week on a character typically, my budget was 7000 tris and a 512 (1024 used for these shots)
Really fantastic work Jaco! I wonder, did you do the concepts as well?
Some of these look like diffuse only, while others seem to have some normal information? Especially the planets? Whats the story there?
Anyway, very inspirational. Always been a fan, and now moreso!

ScoobyDoofus: Thanks man! No, I can't take credit for the awesome character design, that goes to Haitao Su, you can see his concepts at www.galacticbowling.net, check under Media.
This is all diffuse only, for some of the stuff (like the planets and some parts of the characters) I baked lighting information from a zbrush sculpt.
I found that using the seperate color channels of an object space normal map as an overlay gave me some nice ligthing to start with. That's propably why some of the stuff looks normal mapped?
EricChadwick: Here's the wires, I'll find out if I can post flats.
I had a 7000 tri budget for these (including props), but most of these are around 6000, planets are 2000:
man this is AWESOME. i love to see hand painted textures like this. man....this is so good. i must say....my favorite part tho....is the eyeball in the arm socket. i started laughing....and i don't know why. good job dude...this is looking really solid!

congrats on your first gig, it's not going to be the last looking at the quality of work here
Colors are very convincing too.
Really awesome interpretations of the concept art.

Can you show wires and flats? Would love to see what your edge loops and normal maps and diffuse look like.
