I'm actually a bit surprised more people aren't talking about how Kenneth Scott slipped silently out the back door at id to head up to work at Microsoft Game Studios/Halo. I can understand why, but man, talk about an end of an era there. Ken has had his quiet fingerprint on pretty much all the amazing and groundbreaking art and design coming out of there for the last 10 or so years as the Art Director there.
Best of luck with the new venture Ken!

Seriously, have you not seen Ken's stuff? Whether or not like you like Id's games, it's hard to deny that Ken is one of the best in the biz. Crazy inspiring. I'd kill to work with him.
Microsoft is setting up a killer team, can't wait to see what they're working on.

Kenneth is obviously very skilled and I'd love the opportunity to learn from him one day.
possible but just not my kind of taste
i have to admit that i also like your work more when it doesn't go into that evil monstar direction, just not my thing
i just remeber his mudbox betaworks, which i was good sure but it was still very doomy and thats just not my thing, really can't help it, it's to me as appealing as heavy metal kitsch or airbrushed wolves in front of the moon
Ptoing, Ken didn't work on those games.
This could be exciting. I think it will be worth it just to see his take on the Chief.
Quite pivotal, one might say
would love to see him do some more old school 2d stuff
for handheld or wii or something.
I got your hand held wii right here :poly124: :poly142:
History is there for the willing

So you'd love to see someone who pushed the art in our industry stagnate and working on multi-year old tech?
Yes because he is awesome at it.
And about the stagnating part, well you could tell people to stop painting
cause we have cameras.
Protofiend! Man, seeing that is like putting my brain in a time machine! I see that and I still think 'DPF' before I think Kenneth Scott. I think it was the only Q2 skin he even did before he went to Ion Storm - that's all you need to know about how crazy good he was.
Sometimes, I really miss 1998

Like him or hate him you have to admit he's had a deep impact on our industry and is a source of inspiration for many. The man could paint circles around anyone here, literally...
Im from a console-gaming background so missed out on alot of the pivotal ID stuff that he was putting out. Being able to see where he is now and what he is pushin about would be awesome.
Its symmetric cause Doom3 used mirrored textures anyways.
here's one of his magazine covers

Looks nice, very well done techncially, but the design is NOT anything special? The head looks like it is a normal human head with the noface look of Giger's Alien and spunked up a but. And it has stuff on the back. I am not trying to rag on him here, he is very good technically, and I would love to see more of his personal stuff.
That cover is really nice (nicer than any of his id stuff by far imo)
totally agree with that

I know for me personally seeing the highpoly art for doom3 was what got me focused on doing highres stuff myself, so I owe a great amount to people like Ken for inspiring me to really strive for the success that i've had today in my own work.
I'm looking forward to a darker, more grittier halo this time.
