Master_v12

Started this one a loooooooong time ago, when i was really slow at painting lol. I figured i would do this piece some justice and finish it up since Warhammer recently shipped. Congrats to the mythic guys btw. Crits are very much welcome and appreciated

Looks cool, but the blue strikes me as odd/out of place, as there are all those natural colors nd then the blue

i think the colour tone of the blue needs to be matched by adding more painted "spec" to the skin

I think you nailed games workshops style man- I mean everyone always dogs on WOW for being to colorful, which is also why everyone praises it, go figure- but those color sensibilities were pretty much straight jacked from games workshop. WOW has since become its own thing, but personally i really dig the blue. Makes me want to paint a miniature.

I really like this as is, but I think it would be even better if you went with more intense shadows and highlights. Like if you were to sample the darkest places on the concept and the lightest as well, you would see there is much more range in the contrast than your textures here. Again, really nice as is, but more contrast would probably help a lot.

Looks cool man personally im a fan of the blue; i think based on that bit of concept konstruct uploaded that you could go brighter and more saturated with the squig hide part of the armor, can we get a wireframe?

I like it. A colorful spec should help pop his colors, especially in the flesh, when you get to that. Also, I'd push the silhouette further, particularly in the left arm (glove and shoulder pad appear close to skin).

loved how u managed to get all this detail with just the diffuse map. makes me want to do one diffuse only too.
only thing i would say is maybe try some subtle extra colors on his texture (greens looks toooo green, blue looks too blue). through some reds on the greens and blues and so on.
ohh and a wireframe would be great

It looks nice. You skipped out on cast shadows, though. None of the layers look like they are...layered. Drop in some shadows and bring a little more contrast in there! you've got some nice painted texture going on just not nearly enough contrast.

I went back to try and put some of the cast shadows and stuff like that on the armor but i quickly remembered why i didn't do it in the first place. From the beginning I was following the some advice and tips from one of the character artists at mythic (Thanks J!) The model itself is modular in a way that different pieces can be swapped out and replaced by other, so painting in some shadows for this particular armor will look completely different on a different set.



And on top of that the engine itself will do a little bit of the lighting work. So i decided to just leave it as is for now. I started this piece more then a year ago and my psd is a nightmare, many lessons learned. But for now i would rather put the time and effort on a new piece, again thanks much for the advise given ill make sure to put it to good use on the next piece.

display it as it would be in engine then, add the lighting that might be used, then we can crit it as it should be, as it is youve got crits on a completely unlit obj, even still i think you need a little more contrast

I hear you Shepeiro, but like I said its a pretty old piece and i'm moving on. The way the layers are set up right now, its a bit tedious doing any work on it

poor excuse man, dont give-up when your so close ;-) , try an adjustment layer above all your other layers to tweak what you have

The blue gloves and pants are too highly saturated compared to the red hood, pulling all the attention away from the most important part of a character, the face.

the subtle contrast gained is very nice. removes a little of the washed feeling from the colors. did you paint in some more shadows or is it all just the levels tweaking?

yeah i went back in and added some extra shadows, more noticeably on the upper arms below the shoulder armor.
