i made a symbol to represent the good people in this industry. the creative people that make our industry, in my opinion, the greatest there is. the creators of games. i'd like to intentionally create a meme, to see if i can - it's up to you. i ask my friends to join me by hiding this symbol in their art and see if this frog can't quietly find its way into every game being made, just for the fun of it.
damn, I stared at that sucker for like an hour and FINAlly saw what I think could maybe be a frog- then I realized thats probably what you were really trying to do, and I fell right into it.
...jerk
On a side note- thats pretty dope slum, what did you make that in?
So why would I be represented by a toad as opposed to say a rhesus monkey or turkey wearing an amusing hat? I'm not opposed to toads as such, or any amphibians for that matter (except for the caecilians. Screw those guys) but what exactly is your phillosophy on the toad as artist metaphor?
my intention was to create a meme and i thought polycount would help me. i'd create a symbol, then ask my friends at polycount to spread it around, since they have the means. it seemed fairly plausible, so i wanted to try it. hopefully i'll get to see one unexpectedly in a game some day.
i needed a good meaning for the symbol. i decided the symbol should represent admired qualities in the game developers i know. the toad wouldn't represent you yourself, but the traits you respect in the field, found in others.
we have greentooth, and i love him. he's pretty loud though. i made a symbol i thought would be very easy to hide and would go unnoticed to someone that was unaware of it, so not to cause any trouble. this makes causing a movement like this much easier. when it comes down to it, awesome humans in this industry, prompted me to create it.
after i made it, i wanted it name it. i'd ask the polycount community to spread it as a sort of viral propaganda for our community so: "emerald". i saw a frog in it, i like frogs, hence: "toad".
I can see this easily being thrown into games in many different ways. maybe a texture has it in a corner, or maybe so vague as to have some geometry form a rough shape of it. I'm not sure what your initial idea was but it certainly is giving us the opportunity to be creative with how we implement it.
Meh... id rather do a dopefish somewhere. Its easy to hide that simple icon somewhere in a texture or whatever... Dopefish is a challenge and asks for creativity!

I've already started doing this with greentooth as well, but this new symbol is even easier to hide.

i'll get a vector version up sometime tomorrow.
also +1 vote for Slum's new mascot
It looks like the offspring of Greentooth and Domo Kun...
nice idea, and i really like slum's interpretation.

Ever heard of tubgirl?

ok let's not go there or encourage any of this
I don't understand the origin, but think it makes an awesome gang tag.
Sorry, didn't mean to engage in necromancy.
