Gamasutra Is Confusing Me

So they ran a story this morning about a canceled Halo MMO, right?

And then they said this...
"The prototype art, which was at one point made available on an Ensemble-linked online artist portfolio website, further confirms previous rumors that the studio was working on an MMO based on the Bungie-created sci-fi franchise."
I'm pretty sure all the art they're showing is from Badmeat.com. I don't know the artist or where he or she has worked, but I'm pretty sure the last time I was at the site (which was about a week ago) he or she said it was all just part of a personal mock. But I don't know for sure, I just remember leaving the site with a "artist mocking things up for themselves and that's it" vibe.
Anyway, Badmeat.com is down now and I'm just wondering if anyone knows anything about that. It was up recently for sure. At this point I'm really concerned that a journalist at Gamasutra found the artist's site randomly, made an assumption (badmeat's stuff does appear to be Halo inspired), and then cobbled together a bunch of rumors and published it all as a Gamasutra exclusive. And now I'm REALLY concerned that someone's dropping a hammer on Badmeat because they think this might be true. In any case, this exclusive kind of reeks of weirdness.
I DON'T KNOW ANYTHING THOUGH! Just trying to figure it out. If you're out there Badmeat, clear it up for me.
