I chose the concept by Nicolas [Sparth] Bouvier. Made some changes in the original concept. Flipped the image horizontally. The camera was high on the roof top and it is brought down. I had to change the perspective of buildings on right side. Since my story is based on the evil side, i changed the lighting to a warm mood. The crevasse in the middle was formed from a massive attack on the port by an alien species. The destruction was so massive that humans were completely eliminated form the face of earth. Still working on the concept and will post updates soon.

This is the suction head used to take minerals out of the ground. Low-poly version with normal maps for the tube.
Another update. Created the lava pool with maya shaders. Oooh! It was a long one.
just an addon u could put in some alpha dust or some gravel flyin around the suction thingy
If I have to nitpick
* the structures are a little too solid (the walls, the pole near the suction pipe) after all the destruction....might have felt the impact right?!
* those protruding rods on the roof are a bit too symmetric...if thats what u wanted..then fine.....
* the place where the claws hold to the ground need more detail...
* the pipe opening into the crater feels a little odd...probably needs more damage and not that protruding...
the more I see it...the more I like it!

What do you plan to do with the background?
I know this is just preliminary lighting but I just wanted to suggest for a darker scene to have more contrast.
The black lines is actually the power-feeder tower of the alien building at the far. It is used to absorb power from the sky. I am still looking for some idea to display that tower. What i have in mind is a complex structure, but since it is far away it won't be seen that clearly. So i need to keep some alpha cards for the clouds and some fog in front of it.
Ah... I thought it might be something like that.
