Hello from team Polypants......we are finally getting hold of some new techniques and hope to contribute something great for the comp. Slowly but surely we are getting assets done so keep a lookout for updates!
good luck to everyone!
Below is our floating islands. We will have towers on them which fuse a combination of futuristic technology and medieval architecture all securely placed in the eye of a hurricane.
I feel you on working hard and not getting many comments, but such is life man.
I'm not getting a very good sense of scale here, it's confusing with the chains, windows and even the bricks to some extent being large. The brick texture is too noisy right now I think and you could use some other material to break it up. I see you did ledges, but those are also made of stone/brick material, think about using a more plain concrete or stucco or something to help break it up. I'd also take a look at changing the brick texture, it looks like the original photo had a lot of light and shadow in it and you ran it through crazybump and turned up the large detail too much as it has some large subtle wavering. The bricks also seem a bit vertically squished. I'd add some smaller windows, scale down the chains, or add some other smaller elements around the building to help sell the scale. You might wanna think about desaturating the background color, I feel like it's distracting from the scene at hand right now. I like the idea of the thing, floating buildings ftw. Good luck and keep it up.
ogle- Thanks for the comments, we will see what we can do before the deadline. Its funny how you don't notice some details until someone from outside the group critiques it. Your right about the background it is a little overwhelming. Some different materials i agree would break it up. We are noobing it up right now but learning. Thanks again and good luck to you.
I like the concept, but personally I feel that the yellow sky bg is too overpowering over the actually scene. Also for scale maybe some dirigibles would help for more scale and or little details.
