Original Concept:




Backstory:

A research station on an alien planet, seemingly abandoned and over run by the indigenous flora.

More story may come later, I have a plan for it but I would rather work on the art first than write a novel...

Currently going it alone, may enlist a supporting concept artist soonish.

Finals:

going over the concept, going for a moderization of the classic side-scroller feel. Very rough sketches for now, haven't added any plat overgrowth, more detailed elaborations to come. The final scene will include a small amount of the exterior of the installation (as seen in the original concept) as well as the interior of the elevator access room.

seeing how some things translate to 3d with some blockout/test model action. Haven't touched any of the plant growth or wreckage bits yet. Probably going to take this and make a more refined concept, work out all the details, before getting too deep into 3d though.

Lookin good. I like those wires on the side of the tunnel. You need more of that stuff. I know it's pretty high level right now but I'd try breaking your walls up into sections or pieces and individually detailing them out. Kinda unreal static meshish. You'll have a distinct flavor on each wall that taste great. Do you know what camera angle you are going to have for the final?

thanks guys, I'm glad you're diggin it so far. I definitely do need to detail those panels out I just haven't decided exactly what route I wanna go with that style/design wise. Might detail the inside of the elevator shaft next since that should be pretty straight forward, then perhaps move on to making proper models for the computers in the left stretch of the hallway.

very nice textures. The lighting makes me want to shoot things and double jump, nice feel. I do wonder though, how will it play out as a composition?

Thanks guys. Composition is a bit of a question mark right now. Going with the side scroller format presents a bit of a challenge to that but I'll probably end up with an angled shot like the one above (zoomed out a bit though, closer to an ingame camera distance) and then maybe a shot of the whole thing for the second render.

Honestly this was just a really good excuse to make a 3d sidescroller env...haha

Awesome entry! I'm glad this one got finished, there's some kickass materials on this thing. Really cool take on the challenge to do a sidescroller too, wasn't sure how it'd come out but you rocked it.
