I had family down for a few days, but oglemeanimations has been hard at work behind the scenes and I'm back to work too with chicken-plane! Pride of buk-buk's airforce.

Egads! Second page already. Tons of stuff in progress not ready to show yet, but to tide the thread over here's a preview of the normal-mapped and textured chicken statues on a wip base.
Very cool silhouettes on all of these assets. My biggest gripe would be the textures feel very inconsistent still.. Some feel close to photo refs like the brick sidewalk and the chicken texture, where the wood planks seem much more fitting to the original concept. I know lighting will play a huge role, but it doesn't feel like you're quite sticking to the color palette that you originally concepted; it should be closer resembled to the brightness of the untextured chicken plane right now (which is my favorite part so far) so the colors really pop once you throw in some faked HDR goodness. Keep it up!
Definitely all handpainted, no photos will be used in this scene. I think what's throwing off the textures thus far is temp lighting schemes and the diffuse of the cobblestones is too dark atm. What has been done thus far on the diffuse textures for the buildings is the same color palette as the original and will be for sure. The temp lighting just killed it..I'll update tonight when I get home from work with some unlit stuff.

Excellent, I really look forward to seeing it. I agree with the self crits, everything just needs to feel soft and bright. Sure that counters the whole 'evil' thing, but aren't Nazi chickens evil enough??
Thanks for the crits, Kovac. And you are quite right. Any further attempts to augment evil in our nazi chickens have to be very carefully planned as to avoid threatening our very existence.

I've got him up to this point, but I'm really not too sure where to go from here to be sure that he looks like the dictator of the other chickens. I've been toying with a few ideas, but any ideas for pose, accessories, etc are certainly welcomed!
Haha, cool . When I first saw that shot I assumed that the cut in chicken shape was supposed to be a shadow cast from a tiny Hitler-esc chicken giving a speech. Anyway, cool stuff guys, I like the evil yet funny take you're doing.
Decided too many full-body chickens is probably bad idea.
I'm not sure if we'll end up using this because it's a little distracting, but I thought it would be cool to have a big stupid BukBuk head statue. I may add a monocle haha, but I'm afraid that might make him look too refined.
i really like how this one is coming along. whimsical and stylized yet still evil. i love the style your going for the buildings. it totaly fits with the theme of the concept
Bump. Forgot to add the kick ass propaganda poster that Etoli made the other day. Every good leader needs an even greater propaganda factory to keep the small minded and fearful at bay. I also hope to get our story posted tonight: an 11 year old Simkinian girl and her shape shifting pet must liberate her people from servitude and certain death brought by the evil Buk-Buk Bucaw and his minions....more to come.

Thanks for stopping by man, I really hate posting without work to show, but as to not leave you hangin...
The environment itself has actually come a long way in assets, textures, and lighting since the last update. I've been busy ditching max and bringing everything into Unreal, as well as working on all sorts of new assets. Everything should be a lot more..um..environmentally friendly very soon.
I had some pretty daunting deadlines at work last week that caused me to stay up till 4 am doin work work and then over the weekend my cat Wilma, pictured above, passed away. I've been practically incapacitated since. So, I'm playing catch-up this week and I'm hoping to have something I feel comfortable with showing later in the week or this weekend. I'm just realllllyyyy glad we got an extension, thanks Fred!
that's a totally valid concern and - as ogleme said - a huge one that we're fighting with right now. I think we've gotten on track now though, and hope we can show some progress soon to be sure
So, long story short work was insane until last Thursday/Friday including one day that was 35 hours long. FB is working on the K.F.C. and I'm working on getting the lighting down and tweaking my assets, second passes on arts and whatnot. We will be finishing this one.
Thanks man, and thanks for stoppin by! Here's another small update on the lighting, textures and temped in the chicken zeppelin. Need to do another pass on the ground and second passes on a lot of textures, lighting, etc. etc. too much to list.
very original even though this doesn't have the craziness of normals high-poly and fx of the other entries i must say its the most original and my most liked so far keep it up!
Thanks for the support guys, it's really appreciated. I'm gonna pack all this up and take it to work with me tomorrow cause I'm goin in early, bed for now. Added the proper buildings in the background and more with lighting and composition.
More texture, light and layout tweaking. Checked how much texture space we have and have a comfortable amount to finish out the scene. Funky Bunnies is working on finishing the zeppelin and I'm adding foliage bits, decorative elements/replacing temp pieces, painting clouds for the sky, decals etc. We're good to go rolling into the finish line and feeling good about where we're at. Couple of quick UE screencaps before bed.
One thing I'd suggest is making your skybox more menacing. Maybe more red colors and dark thunder clouds etc. Right now it looks like it was a nice pleasant day.

One thing I'd suggest is making your skybox more menacing. Maybe more red colors and dark thunder clouds etc. Right now it looks like it was a nice pleasant day.
