Ok so this concept provided by Thomas Tenery will be my starting point. More concepts will come soon. Good luck everyone

Update: Back story / Concept description
A pit mining operation on a foreign planet unknowingly unearths a mysterious plant bulb. The bulb takes root in the pit wall and begins to grow around the mining equipment, eventually engulfing most of the facility. The plant is actually a parasitic organism that feeds off of and eventually devours the host planet. As it consumes the soil around it for energy the parasite uses tentacle like vines to ensnare nearby creatures, in this case the miners. The victims are then ingested and placed within large bulbous sacks that can be seen all over the outside of the parasite's trunk. Within these sacks the toxins of the parasite work to slowly mutate the victims, turning them into new seedlings that can then be planted elsewhere on the planet. Once multiple parasites take root and begin to mature they connect with one another via their sprawling root systems. This newly formed hive mind then continues to grow and consume the host planet. Once most of the planet's matter has been expelled into space as waste by the parasites it will become nothing more than a meteor flying though space. And although most of the parasites will die off due to the lack of planetary resources, this meteor sized planet is now the vessel that will carry the buds of the parasite to a fresh new planet else where in the galaxy.
I should have some concept work up later today.
