xbox 360 controller on vista

I am presuming the only way for my laptop to detect the xbox 360 controller is to buy the wireless receiver for it or buy the hard wired version.

Which is the better option.

I think a wired controller would be better. That is better than having a pc exclusive adapter in my opinion. Even though it is $10 more, it can come in handy if your wireless controller has a problem. But it is really up to you.

I tried the wireless receiver and couldn't get it to work. Wired is fully plug and play though. Not worth the hassle imo.

could you plug the wired one in with the charging cable? or does it just supply power?

Marine - the play and charge kit is power only, not data.
I've used a wired and wireless 360 controller with adapter on my laptop without problems. I used the wired one for playing games at home and the wireless one for giving presentations where I might need to hand the controller around.

hmm no wonder i couldn't get mine to work even though the play and charge kit will allow Vista to detect that a controller is plugged in. :poly118:
