I think a wired controller would be better. That is better than having a pc exclusive adapter in my opinion. Even though it is $10 more, it can come in handy if your wireless controller has a problem. But it is really up to you.
Marine - the play and charge kit is power only, not data.
I've used a wired and wireless 360 controller with adapter on my laptop without problems. I used the wired one for playing games at home and the wireless one for giving presentations where I might need to hand the controller around.

hmm no wonder i couldn't get mine to work even though the play and charge kit will allow Vista to detect that a controller is plugged in. :poly118:
