i'd still like to see what their original resource image was....
Not sure if Im "allowed" to show their test. Its probably not a problem....but I am going to air on side of caution and assume I would need permission first.
Good on ya. I got an email from them asking me if I wanted to do a similar test yesterday. I'm glad to not have to break the ground you did, but this is an educational thread .
Congrats. And don't let them know they need to change the test asset lol
BTW why not use two sheets on the chain? Like the old unreal torchflame/chain kinda thing.
Looks like Digital Extremes will need a new art test now, since you guys have posted yours here. I'm not sure the art lead there will appreciate having to develop a new one. Stimpack, you should probably let him know.
EDIT: Ok, I got the company wrong, I should have re-checked the first post.
Matt showed me this thread today and I figured since EVERYONE else is doing it......I'll drop my submission as well. Even though this post looks pretty dead.......

I agree with EQ, a less noisy texture could really help the prop.
You also should give the ao more opacity.
Hi Guys, This is the only thing I can do in 4hrs. Although the test is done, I still want to improve it; please criticize it. Thank you.
oh wow, had no idea this thread was still going...
I see what you mean by silhouette
I cant seem to make heads or tails of one cube each is enough? and bigger case more padding?

Oh sweet! nice work Greatjmo! Im curious, how did you Unwrap the sphere? Looks good to me
The bigger case I think means bigger cage, as in projection cage - there's some rays that missed at places during baking.
More padding... I have no idea :P
Guess I should change the thread title to 'How to redeem yourself after failing an art test'
Thank you again for the support and encouragement guys!

Fixed the texture. One question, does anybody know why my chain texture is like that? Thanks
Looks meaty...
Or to go on with Vig's theme: To much marbling?

My point still stands.
I wasn't sure if they meant 550-600 polygons or triangles. I went with triangles, but who knows.
everyone always means triangles!
Don't pretend like you didn't know that, matt. Btw, pwned!
Great work bud.
