Disabling touchpad on laptop?

Gotta question how do I disable my touchpad mouse on my laptop? it gets in the way of the keyboard, I would go with gateway support but thought it might help others in my situation.

in device manager under mouse I have a ps/2 compatible mouse and HID-compliant mouse, dunno which if either to disable to get this out of my way.

I use a wacom usb and switch out with an intelli mouse explorer, no need for the stupid touch pad.

Usually most touchpads are by Synaptic (they patented the hell out of that) and provide a driver for them in which you can configure them. Apparently your touch pad's driver isn't installed, you can try installing it first.

You should be able to disable the touchpad via the mouse settings window from control panel. One of the tabs is for the touchpad (it usually has the synaptics swirly logo on it), under which there should be a button to disable it.
