I'm going on vacation soon to someplace over on that other continent, and I need to get a new digital camera so I won't have to rely on my shit memory in order to savour the trip. I'm willing to pay around $800-1000, give or take a few hundred, that meet a few specific points.
1. Ease of use. I'm unfamiliar with camera's advanced features, so I don't really need a top of the line camera. If I find I use it all the time and want to dive further down the rabbit hole, I'll get a more pimpin' camera in a few years.
2. Great resolution and clarity, cause it'd be great to be able to take some photoref for whatever project I'm working on.
3. Colour, I just want it to properly represent what I see, but I'm not so picky that I wouldn't colour correct a photo in post if it looked a bit off.
4. Focusing, a good auto focus feature? I donno, is it kinda redundant? It's nice when you're strolling through a place, though.
5. Physical size. I'd rather not go around with a ridiculously big camera, I'd get embarassed and insecure. People are always trying to steal your shit. : (
6. Memory. An easy, and widely compatible memory stick format. Just as long as I won't have any grief getting stuff to and from my PC.
7. Well-known brand. As much as I'd love to have the MegaPix 9000 made in Thailand... Yeah...
8. Durability. I'm careful with my shit, but shit happens. I'm not expecting it to survive a drop only a Gameboy could live through, but bumps and bruises shouldn't break it.
9. Average battery life. I donno what average battery life for a decent camera is.
Ogh, I donno where to start. What does SLR mean, and should I want it? I really appreciate any time you guys spend filling me in on this confusing matter.

Oh and SLR = Single Lends Reflex Camera.. basically means that the same lense is used to provide the image you see in the viewfinder and also to capture the image.
