Parents purchased a laptop, and they want to be able to connect it to our current internet connection, instead of having to leech a wireless connection from our neighbors.
Currently looks like this:
Want to create a LAN, so we can share printers and files and such.
What hardware would I need, etc.?
I'm a complete idiot when it comes to these kind of things, so... HALP.

Get a wireless router that supports 802.11n. I've used Apple's airport extreme. It works well, but less expensive models are available from other manufacturers, which probably work just as well.
get a wireless router, and stick it between the modem and your PC. Your PC will still plug in to it with a regular network cable, but the laptop can use wifi to connect.
I just got this, and it kicks my old Linksys 54g's ass:

it's the best router on the market for the price acording to many different reviews.
