IDE and SATA drives master/slave?

i currently have an IDE harddrive, and my new SATA hd came today and i put it in my tower, hooked up the power and the motherboard cable to it, and turned on my computer, it booted fine, but she new hd doesn't show up in my computer. also, how do i set it to the master drive if the IDE one is master and the SATA doesnt have jumper settings. thanks for your help

Firstly, you dont need a master drive for sata, theres no need for it. You go into bios and set your boot order, thats he only thing that matters. Secondly, try right clicking on my computer, go to manage, and then in there go to drive disk management. When that loads up it should see your drive, and you can format it from there as well.

hm, i tried all 4 sata ports on my mobo and it never shows up, i hope there isnt something wrong with the drive

Yeah if its a new drive, and still not showing up, theres a good chance that it is DOA. Sata drives are generally pretty easy to work with... Does it show up in bios when you boot?

ah wait i think i found it in that "manage" menu, i right clicked it and hit "initialize" so now its "online" and all i have to do is set it as primary and create a partition now...i think, anyways, thanks for you help Earthquake
