Hi!

I finally updated my homepage, I wouldn't call it portfolio yet, I have mostly wip stuff on it. I decided to quit my job, and take time to improve myself as an artist, craftsman. Feel free to crit anything.

http://www.rota-art.com

My primary concerns are : the thumbnails are too big, my english is not perfetct :), the images are too big, etc etc.....

Thanks in advance:

Rota

Now, these are all just suggestions. I'm not a web designer or anything like that, so take 'em all with a grain of salt.

You have a lot of good stuff in your portfolio, so content isn't an issue. It's the presentation that's bugging me. You have tons and tons of empty space on your page that could be trimmed down and filled with content.

I'd suggest making the banner at the top much smaller so more thumbnails are in view when you first load the page. Along with that, I'd suggest reducing the size of the thumbnails and moving them closer together so you can fit four to a row instead of just two.

Oh, and the popup windows seriously need to go. They're huge, at least on my screen (1440x900), and they take a long time to load. Best to get rid of them and either have the images open on a new page, maybe one with other thumbnails to click on.

Here's a picture to show what I'm talking about as far as visual design goes:

I like the immediate access to your work, thats always good. As Swizzle said, its a lil narrow with lots of empty screenspace. Cant say for sure, but the people interrested in 3d etc. probably aignt running 800x600... hell my 3y old lappy is running 1920x1200. Its nitpicking ofcause, but having to scroll alot due to unused space is kinda... meh.

Other then that, it seems solid =)

I really like your portfolio. The only main thing I would change is that when you click on links (like the one to the xnormal site) I would make it open a NEW window. I don't think you ever want to encourage people to completely navigate away from your site. Its a small point, but I see people forget to set up there website so that new windows always open all the time, and it always bothers me.
Like I said, its a really small point, so great work.

The pop-up windows for the characters come up really tall. On my laptop (1280x800, Firefox 1.5), they don't fit on the screen vertically and the pop-up doesn't have a scrollbar, so the bottom of the pictures gets cut off. Aside from that though, it looks great.

Thanks for your feedback guys! I've changed/fixed a lot of stuff. Made the menu font larger, fixed the link bug, and raised the menu a bit higher. Soon I will resize some images. Oh and with some help I implemented a flash picture viewer. The guy who made the engine for the site said that it would be a hell of a lot work now, to make the design that Swizzle suggested (which I completely agree with ), so maybe later.

    So thanks again :
