Trying to gain some further information on what people would prefer for an obj loader for a viewer. Right now I am trying to handle multiple objects, but that's proving to be a pain since max does things differently than everyone else in the ordering of the values.

Would people care if multiple objects in an obj file were merged into one? Problems would occur if I go the quick lazy route for normals and texture coordinates if I don't compensate for them.

Also I am looking for obj files exported from maya, max 09, max 08 or lower, max obj exporter (can't recall the name), blender. Preferably just two cubes exported out in the same obj file. This is so I can figure out a better route to import obj files and allow multiple obj files to work properly. I should note I have obj's from silo and xsi to work with, so those are not needed.

All obj's if possible please email to craig.young.81 at gmail.com. Any and all help is, as always, greatly appreciated.

Max 2k9 integrated the GuruWare exporter, which was previously available for earlier max versions. It was largely broken as you are well aware (hadn't been updated since 2k1 I think?

Going forward, it may be worth just ignoring pre-2k9 or Guruware-less obj's? Or maybe if someone tries to load a Max obj, direct them to the Guruware exporter and ask them to re-export with it.

But these are only OBJ's, they're not THAT difficult, even if Max did them retarded (I remember the face on a programmer at my last job when he was looking at Max OBJs)- just work harder :P

Prof: I know they're not hard to work with. Problem is, every program likes to do things differently. Most like to place a "g <object name>" before the faces. xsi only places that at the top.

And not supporting previous versions would be nice, but no everyone has the latest versions. I would prefer to support most variations along with multiple obj's. I was mostly asking if people wanted multiple obj's or not. cause if they do, well I need more than xsi and silo for obj files.
