UT3 Custom Character Skeletal Meshes

I've been reading quite a few tutorials and documentation on custom characters for UT3. However I'm not sure if anyone actually tried to build a custom skeletal mesh for characters with unique animations.

Does UT3 1.2 support something like that yet ? There sure isnt any official documentation on it, or at least none on UDN.

Does anyone have any input on this ? I'm planning to make something for the MSU contest with a fellow animator from work.
