How to clean install (different OS) on laptop?

hello,

I recently purchased thinkpad notebook (which came with Windows Vista Home Basic), and meanwhile didn't have time to cleanup.
Last night, spent good amount of time for creating Recovery Discs, etc... in order to install my trusty Windows XP pro (sp2, 32bit), and computer didn't recognize it, and said that there is no HDD to install...
I guess I will contact Lenovo for sure with this matter, but here I am seeking another possible solutions.
To summarise my problem, I want to install XP on my laptop came with Vista Home Basic...

Is this impoosible by chance?

Thanks in advance,

Rybeck

I have never owned a laptop, but a friend of mine had this issue when trying to install an english version of XP (laptop came with chinese version XD). He had to load drivers for the hard drive on bootup and then was able to install.

Maybe this will help, maybe not.

check your bios for the hard drive / sata confg and if its set to ahci change that to ide or native. thats prolly the issue. Could also have to load drivers like psyko said if you dont have a usb floppy or floppy for your laptop use http://www.nliteos.com/ to slipstream the drivers into your install.
