as you see from the horizontal and vertical lines, you cannot really move the vertices anywhere else, else you get distortions in the sides being not at 90°
so the mess is not the corners, but the top/right profiles not matching.
but ironhawks suggestion should yield a proper flow
truth, i'd use the cut faces tool as Vig suggested. If you hold j while rotating it'll snap to every 15 degrees (and you can change the increment in the tool settings)
ok now it gets a little funky - you also could create a helper pivot by using another object which is 45° rotated, and use that as your temp axis system to scale the vertices to a planar level... but just rebuilding it would be more efficient i guess
if he creates a profile he can wrap it round whatever he wants in the future as well. Just save off the profile to a shape layer and save it for later.

In 3dsmax 2k8 and higher there is hardly a need for helper pivot "objects" instead check out the "Working Pivot". Having an alternate pivot point thats only a keystroke away is a bit faster then setting up helpers. I'm not saying its a total replacement for helper objects but its another option in recent versions people tend to overlook.

Woot! Done.
You could use the slice tool and rotate it 45 degrees, and re-extrude the side from the freshly cut edges.
