This is my first subd model, so yeah, totally going to lose this one, but it's worth a shot. much thanks earthquake for the tips. I'm going to model one of those cheapo electro dot sights for the top and a flashlight for the side rail.
Are you using xnormal man? Try increasing the distance settings(front/back ray distance) in the low poly tab, i think thats the issue here, or decrease them if that doesn't work.
I've had problems with xNormal when the hipoly object was oriented differently and didn't fit the low exactly, so I had similar results. When you export the high and the low as .obj, be sure to check 'rotate model' for both and that they overlap.
someone i know baked this for me in crytek's polybump. lots of missing details and screwed up edges. when eq gets back online i'll go bug him to bake it for me since my xnormal is a bit screwy and i cant be arsed to fix it...
Looks great dude! The one thing I noticed is that your bullets in the magazine are stacked up in two, unstaggered rows. Round things will always try to stack the same way:

it's mostly the angle, but there is a bit of strangeness going on there, but quite frankly i'm too lazy to fix it. :P

It would be easier to tell if you show the low poly.
There shouldn't be any 90 desgree angles. I made sure there were no overlaps when i uved it.

baked some temporary ao maps. same normals, added some stuff.
haven't even touched the shader stuff yet
once i do the spec map stuff this should look fairly killer imo... also need to model and uv a bullet and make the mag transparent
