looks like enclosed spaces in level design, i hope that's not what they're going for. I hate games like those these days
I really hate the chaingun's position on screen and its muzzleflash. Something always bothered me with additive 'fire' with white in the image fading to grey and it's been bothering in so many new games, etqw included
I watched it, 12 fricken years ... who's to say they wont start from scratch again, I wish I had their budget, you could release a duke game every 13 months no doubt.
I'm confused by people's reactions... were you expecting something better than Duke Nukem? Duke Nukem 3D was a pretty mediocre game that was really only playable because of the Evil Dead / John Carpenter / Schwarzenegger movie references and influences. Just because a game takes more than a decade to be made doesn't mean you should have a higher expectation of the franchise.
I personally haven't anticipated this title at all... at no point in it's long development cycle have I ever cared about it, so I'm sure I'll eventually play it and get exactly what I expect: a Duke Nukem game.
"I think we're known most for games your mother wouldn't want you to play."
"when we started making games, we were already 30+ year old game developers. We wanted mature games for ourselves, we're making the kind of games we wanted to see ourselves; we always catered to the adult gamer--because that's what we are."
Oh noes, duke doesn't look like the best game evarrr, everybody get upset and cry.
As long as it has strippers that i can shoot in the face, and pig cops flying in spaceships, I'll be happy. Seriously, are people expecting some revolutionary award wining Virtual Shawshank Redemption?

Like the non-linear level design and creative revolutionary weapons never existed!
the level design was excellent, at least for the time. i think most people remember it different than you do keyser, and when I replayed it about a year ago I still enjoyed it

For something that has been in development for 12 years I would expect something that looks better than a game that came out nearly four years ago.
I just love how people are judging this on a low-res vid made up mostly of the non-dev equivalent of Cliffard B and quickly cut videoclips of the game itself that show basically nothing but a good look at the weapon-switching.
I'm still looking forward to playing this, albeit with fairly low expectations. 'low' in the sense of what Slum said: It's not highbrow material, people. Pigs dressed as cops and strippers. It's just a shitload of fun, and I'm not ready to claim this one a failure in that department based solely on this vid.
But hey, keep on 'QFT'-ing the 'omg terrible cancle Awlreddy'

Yes, people SHOULD be expecting something "revolutionary" (fuck I hate that word) for that type of game. Otherwise they fail as developers if they constantly went back to the drawing board FOR 10+ YEARS to come up with more of the same for the Duke Nukem experience.
If the game comes out, and its Duke Nukem with a next-gen coat of paint I'll be disppointed. Both as a fan of the series and a fan of game development. It'll show, to me anyway, that 3D Realms doesn't have their shit together when it comes to actual product development.
its kinda hard to judge the visuals on that tiny clip.. i mean, was it killzone 2 that had a few screenshots out and everyone started bashing it, and then they released a full video and we said 'oh..'
I am sure 3DR had control over what was shown, and if that's what they want to be for the first official game play footage than thats what initial impressions will come by.
They may reveal later on about some new in-depth design elements but for now, I think it looks very so-so.
I don't really think what the impressions are really, the game is a joke, the management are has-beens, and it's going to sell millions because of the legacy of failure it's had.
It'll be like watching a train wreck whether there are casualties or not, people will want to know.
The video doesn't show much to go by, but overall I was impressed. The original Duke Nukem was one of the first FPS I can ever remember playing, so I'm looking forward to DNF for a refreshing blast from the past.

edit: destructable environments?
I dare you to download the game off Live, play it and then come back here and say that. There are a lot of interesting things that go on in a Duke Nukem level - things to interact with, random unexpected events, interesting structures. The level design itself though is awful. Confusing levels that constantly wind back on themselves, switches, keycards and doors hidden so they're impossible to see unless you're standing right on top of them and a whole host of other poor design decisions which weren't forgivable even back when the game was released. DN3D was, after all, released after both the original Doom games with their tight, well laid out and considered level structures.

"Pre-order and get 3 copies free, so we can make room for other games in our warehouse." :P
Unreal Engine 2.5 for the win. . .on Xbox.

To me it looks like Doom 3 ... which came out almost 4 years ago now.
Ahh good ole Duke Nukem Forever in Development....
