anybody own one. what are the pros cons - or if you can recommend similar .

tape or 8cm dvd discs? apparently they are quite expensive but with the tapes you need firewire to transfer to your pc.
don't know much about firewire TBH

yeah off to portugal next week and the missus wants a camcorder:)

cheers

I have the sony dcr trv-103, might be similar. It records DV on Hi-8 tapes only. Works pretty well, tapes are cheap though the tech is old so I imagine the tapes will become less available as time goes on. DV transfer to the computer is super-easy, I use WinDV freeware, doesn't drop frames and it auto-names the AVIs by date. But... I'm mostly using my digicam now instead, much easier to transfer and fits in the pocket, better image quality too.

I bet it does. MPEG2 on a DVD can only go up to 10mbps or so, though cameras often compress lower than that. DV is always about 29mbps.

However... my sony dsc-t100 digicam records in MPEG2, and actually has better quality than the DV camera. Better/newer CCD I think.
