Very nice, love the style and colors.
I have a question, why do you paint on a white background? I've always been told to avoid pure white or black backgrounds. Still looks awesome though.
who told u that and for what reason?
if u make a render of a skin or model its prolly not the best
decission to put it on 100% black or white.
but that allways depends on the light situation.
so i dont see why i shouldnt paint on white
if i want them in white.
plus they arent exactly on white since they have
a tiny bit of dirty around...
Maybe it's just something beginners should avoid, a white background is definitely not taking anything away from your paintings, quite the opposite actually.
there are many things with white backgrounds. first off it hurts your eyes so bad, no kidding. if you sit and stare at a white background for a whole day I bet they will be a lot more tired by the end of the day compared to if you had used something darker. now this is probably not the main reason but I think it is reason enough.. also why I hate this forum cause of the white text.
white is as bright as it can get and it usually has the effect of "shining" and seem like it spills out on its surroundings. might be good in your case cause I think it makes the girls in your images seem thinner?
also light values usually draws the attention of your eyes and having it all over the place might not be the best thing.
did you try using other colors/values as background? might be worth a try and see what you think yourself.
personally I didnt really think the white background thing was such a big deal but when I tried drawing things on a grey background they read a lot better. but like you said you do have some non-whites close by the character so it isn't as bad as if it had been totally white.
actually.. I'm not so sure about the thinner thing cause dark clothes usually hide your silhouette I believe.. hmm. or at least people who are worried about being considered fat usually like dark clothes so I'd assume it has something to do with it. well, might be worth thinking about it
Diggin' the colours, not so much the type. Think the functionality is left behind a bit on the type, your letters don't differ enough from each other to make them identifiable individually. Would love to see what designesque answer you find to making it readable.
hehe yea thats totaly not the idea.
the idea is to be as primitiv as possibly
yet different which they are. of course
these are demanding. readability was
never the motivation when doing those.
also obviously it is no type for running text
and would if anything form one or a few words.
few enough to be acceptable for anybody.
i wasnt sure anyway if this belongs here or not
but this is very nerdish and either u dig it or dont i guess.
if u got something clever do a mockup anyway...
thats the only way u can judge on it...
yea totaly. thats why i dig it lol... it kinda has this funny fight going on...
i realized only the red is representing what i liked about it.. so i took down the others yes
i have 2 different monitors here. one feels very wWHHOAOAAHW!!
the other is more subtile... i wonder what it looks like on yours hehe
and yea that white yapyap i dont bother anyway lol...
whatever looks good looks good.
why should one not use white
what with white in websites?
whats with white paper ?!?!?
I must say I liked the green one too. probably cause human eyes are more sensitive to green? (so I could actually make out what the text said) or at least from what I heard but going from my post above I probably have no idea what I am talking about. haha.
and the white stuff is pretty fun. cause I don't really like the white text on this forum even though it is surrounded by nice gray and black stuff. to my eyes it becomes like when you put red text on blue background (http://www.worqx.com/color/color_contrast.htm).
and white paper is also fun. not sure how much this story is true but people complained about how the bleach used to color the paper was destroying the environment. they tried selling paper that wasn't white and hey.. it didn't sell as well even though it had these nice environment friendly brands.
also I'm sorry if I'm posting a lot of nonsense in your sketchbook
Hope you don't mind a little paintover. I see where you are coming from with trying to bring it back to it's most primitive form, perhaps going over the top is it's beauty, in that case I guess I destroyed that with my paintover.
I love your other stuff btw, design, graphism and game art
I can make out the tiny type, but it takes a bit for my eyes to adjust to it. It ain't hurting my eyes though, which is good. I kind of get the impression that introducing more contrast between the colors would ruin the look you're going for too, so I don't know how you'd get the small type to stand out more.
Also, nice sculpts, although I like the first more since it has a little more style to it without going all Gears of War. Still haven't figured out how to do noses very well in sculpting, and I really like them noses. Weird, I know, but eh.
hey stjoris thanks for taking the time. yes but no this is not what i want.
u changed the weight of the g. also H has that new lineweight in it
that is a total exaction to all other letters. thats totally not what i like
here a playaround with the type... it makes it very kiddy in a way.
i like it.. but not as much as the original
new one is definitely more ledgeable, but the first one has edge, which I can dig :P. It just wont have mass appeal because people are dumb, and need the obvious to function :P

Well, the beauty of type is lost when it's not legible, in my opinion. Lots of people have reduced type to its basics, with varying results. If you like the shapes, that's cool. I do too, I just wouldn't call it a typographic success
And you can't say someone looks like tdr*! Their style is all their own, and I'm sure Qube's going for his own style as well, heh.
*you can, ofcourse, but for a while so many people tried to look like them, I don't think it still counts as a compliment, hehe.
been doodling after work a bit
first time doing anything that is not just a head in zbrush
this is started with zspheres. theres lotsa stuff i wanna change/tweak
my hand hurts abit so i stop it for now... definatlly fun gotta do more
this sketch is great!
i don't know about the basemesh though... you've got some nasty 5-sided polys on the shoulders and the verts with only 3 edges (called poles) will create horrible pinching at the elbow. also: those hips are very weird.
keep it up!
this last one looks nice. altough i would change the nose. the tip of the nose. a little bit more inside. a little groove. lol but as if you would care about what i say.lol.
yea prolly... i wont bother about following critiques on the sculps themselfs
but will incorporate them in future ones ... i wanna do alot of them ... get in a groove.
dont get anything perfect done... just as good as it goes in the time i have...
its mainly lunchbreak stuff ...

I guess that reads Graphism then? Without your explanation of what an O and a Q was I wouldn't have figured it out.
I love the paintings at the top though, the white doesn't hurt my eyes at all and I think any other colour wouldn't look as good.
edit: I forgot to mention I'd love to buy a large poster+ sized print of your other graphisms on your site too!
