Looks really nice, the only thing that bugged me a bit , maybe it's the video itself, but the baddies got lost in the background when they were near the mountains and it seemed wrong. Maybe it's intentional but really the level seems pretty hard already I don't think having the enemy blend into the background as much as it did in the video to be a good thing.
wow I'm very impressed. The new engine upgrade looks fantastic! wonder if they are using Unreal lighting or Beast. The Gears 2 marketing machine has started
If Im honest it looks the same as the first one to me, the scale of the fighting just looks bigger, more units on screen and less tight corridors, which is pretty cool but really its a sequel so I didnt expect much to change.
really have a hard time getting excited about this.. basically throw in a bunch of cliches weve all seen before, and add the highest graphics software we can throw at it.. i dont see anything new, honestly. I mean NEW
sorry, looks the same. i agree, to me this feel like an expansion pack. after looking at the comparison footage i have to say the differences are very slight... i also played it on the pc so i am use to seeing it in a much higher rez than the 360, since this is marketing i would bet we are looking at footage running on pc. i am going to reserve judgment until i see some new stuff, i know there are new baddies and characters, why they didn't want to show anything new in the trailer is beyond me, but at the same time they could be intentionally releasing meh stuff at first so as the marketing machine begins to pick up momentum they can top what they released previously with every new glimpse..
i was really looking forward to seeing this and was a bit of a let down..
Marcus hair is still weirdly lit, it strobes whenever theres gunfire.
UE3 features SSAO now, it is not apparent in this video.
The new character lighting seems to be in effect.
The brumack seems to have gotten a face-lift.
Theres no brown filter over everything anymore and the bloom seems to be toned down.
Cliffy B has been working out.
I thought it looked great, better lighting, more enemies, melee and regular combat is improved. I guess everyone has their own expectations about what a sequel entails. Atleast from what was shown, it hit the mark for me.
graphics technology is peaking. it is now up to physics and destructible environments.
I don't see much evidence of real-time graphics technology peaking any time soon, although I think I know what you mean. I don't foresee a massive of a graphical leap between current graphics and those at the end of the consoles life cycles, but as previous generations have taught us there will be a difference.
Physics and environmental interaction are definitely areas where progression is waiting to be made, and more importantly the integration of animation with those two areas, characters animating more believably as well as characters interacting with physics and the environment in more organic ways.
Looked pretty badass. It does look only slightly better in terms of graphics, but there were nice new gameplay elements that were shown. Im sure there are lots of new characters and enemies that were not shown there. That was prolly why it visually looked the same as the first game.. I cant wait till it comes out. Its gonna be alot of fun.
How soon is the game going to come out? I think they are focusing more on gameplay aspects than just adding more polys to the characters which already looked great, and just be Gears of War just better lit and have more color variation. It looks nice so far, and the new combat seems very cool.
I think it looks awesome. I can see a ton of improvements and seriously this is our first look into the new gears. Do you really expect Epic to give us the money shot on the first take?
If so you need to go watch more porn and realize the money shot comes at the end.
I cant see why theres quite a negative response to it to be honest. Mostly its criticisms of "it still looks the same" or "more of the same" though I cant remember those being bad things when Gears came out. I cant think of many 360 games that surpass gears in the visuals stake, and if they do, its not by much, so I just dont understand the expectation that 2 will be much better. We all knew it was on UE3, with a few new features, is all.
My only criticism (thought the game looked good) is still levelled at those god damn cliches that I know are going to pop up sooner or later. And not just cole-train style elephants in the room, but unavoidable tribal tattoo style ones.
HAHAHA! One of the things I noticed as well and giggled for a bit.
As for the vid, I was seriously in awe. Huge improvements to the visual quality, and the gameplay does look like more of the same, but I'm not complaining at all because I enjoyed the gameplay from first one.
I guess I'm a bit of an Epic fanboy, so I'm sure I'll love the game regardless.

Also isn't Gametrailers meant to be showing some exclusive footage today as well?
EDIT: It got to 0 and then reset to 23 hours, 59 minutes. I want my 8 minutes back.
Kick ass though.

No new graphics, same gameplay it seems...it almost seems too soon to come out with a new Gears
It might not be a full generation ahead but it's still fairly obvious to me.
Vid has me super stoked, Gears gone LOTR scale!?
I think it's safe to assume this footage is merely an appetite whetter.
graphics have been improved. They have added realtime ambient occlusion, dynamic water, soft body physics, larger crowds, better character lighting.

cowboy hats add +10 to STR, CON, and CHA, the -5 INT hit is negligible compared to the gains, mannnnnnnnnnn!!!
