It's a local fresh salsa made by Emerald Valley. It's awesome. Other than that, I make my own when I can get good fresh tomatoes. But Xenobond, I disagree with the vinegar thing. I put just a little bit of apple cider vinegar in mine, and along with a little lime juice it gets great tang to counter the heat. Just a matter of taste I suppose.
It's always been weird to me why Northern climes hate spicy food. I mean, I know the whole hot-pepper preservative angle, but c'mon, I likes me some heat.
There's a great chicken place around the corner that does spicy wings, but their hottest so-called "death-defying" isn't even beyond a medium, at best. Such a shame.
Love me some Franks Red Hot.. The extra hot is good too. But for a real burn look up some Dave's Insanity Sauce...READ THE DIRECTIONS BEFORE USING. I made this mistake and added a ton to my chili and when i took a bite my tongue punched me in the face. Says on the bottle to use in DRIPS....
As far as salsa goes I have a nice habanero salsa I like to make from time to time and habanero wings on the grill are the bomb...
Heheh, I tried Dave's, for me it was too much hot for too little taste. Guess I like my Scoville units in smaller doses. If my mouth is buzzin I'm happy.
I'm really big on salsa from local places. I've found a place by my condo in LA that I can walk to that has great salsa. I'd say explore some restaurants that make salsa homemade. Definitely better than store bought. It's always different too. Sometimes really hot, sometimes really spicy.
I can only eat the home made stuff now. My neighbor owns a taqueria and after much begging she showed me how to make the real stuff. Hot as hell and really simple to make.
You just need a can of whole peel tomatoes, salt, and Chile de Arbol. Finding the perfect chiles is the hardest part, they can't be too dry and not too red.
Once you get em though you just put the chiles in a frying pan till they get dark. Put the juice from the tomatoes in, the fried chiles, and some salt in the blender, blend the shit out of it, then put the whole peeled tomatoes in and blend it but not too much so it stays chunky. You can control how hot you want it with how much chiles you put in. When I first started making the stuff there was a few batches that were so hot it wasn't even edible haha.
When it comes to hot I like Schezwan sauce (with as little vinegar as possible) on just about anything, especially if its home made. Or BBQ, I've met the man and he made me cry.
If you want the best of both worlds....try adding large quantities of hoseradish to your favorite salsa. Then you get a kick in the mouth as well as the sinus cavities.
I'm starting to think most foods nowadays are being made - 1 part natural and 2 parts plastic. Probably best to make your own.
And if by "natural" you mean totally synthetic, laden with modified additives and pesticides, then yeah. Might as well start eating cigarettes as a healthy snack...
Even organic fruits and veggies will kill ya. "What you do mean spraying ripe cow manure directly on the fruit will spread disease?"
