Wow it looks different in here.
A friend of mine has a son who just graduated "Art School". He's given me his website with his portfolio. I thought you guys could appreciate it and maybe give a little critique. Waddyathink?
Fred Davis He's done some interning with a local comic book publisher. He'll be looking for work this spring.

But I don't see too much that applies to this industry. If he's planning on going for a 2D job, he'll need to work in a wider range. Right now he has a very "coloring book" approach and he needs to push his use of color and light a lot more.
He might like reading over some of these tutorials?

If he wants to be successful in the former industries, I'd say he's well on his way to being quite marketable. He's got a good sense of humour and his drawings are nicely stylized for the most part. If I were to critique, I'd say he should work harder to improve his line work and hatching skills with the pen. They're good enough to do the job, but really nailing those abilities will set his work apart from the substantial competition he faces.
It might also be worth including some original caricatures of famous people (politicians, especially) in his portfolio. Truly good caricaturists are few and far between, and his style would suit that kind of work. This would just be to give him more options for art directors to consider, as children's book illustration is a horrendously difficult area to break into.
If he wants to get into game art, he's going to have to make a completely different portfolio. No game company would hire him with this portfolio, just on the basis of not having any work that applies to anything they'd need him to do.
