Position: Pipeline Technical Director Division: CIS Vancouver VFX Reports To: Head of 3D and Technology Start Date: Immediately
Responsibilities Reporting to the Head of 3D and Technology, the Pipeline Technical Director will be heavily involved in the creation and ongoing support of a large high-end visual effects pipeline and asset/project management system. Production support of artists and package-specific scripting will also be part of the responsibilities. This is a full-time position requiring some overtime.
Duties - Assist with the implementation of a pipeline and asset/project management system - Problem solving and developing improved software systems and tools - Conducting research, designing and implementing, testing and optimizing production pipeline tools - Develop and maintain leading-edge proprietary tools/shaders/plugins/scripts and recommend relevant external alternatives - Creating UI for animators, providing tools for user-friendly controls - Design, develop, and maintain proprietary scripts used in production - Maintain contacts with academia/industry to keep current on new research and competitor developments - Acquire and maintain up-to-date knowledge in the relevant fields - Participate, when applicable, in technical support/director candidates’ interviews
Qualifications - Good working knowledge of Python and HTML/Javascript required - Excellent problem solving and communication skills - Linux knowledge and scripting experience required - OSX knowledge and scripting an asset - C++ plugin experience an asset - Experience with SQL databases an asset - Experience writing shaders for Renderman, Mantra, Mental Ray or other production renderers an asset - Experience scripting or writing plugins for Houdini, Maya, XSI, Lightwave, Fusion or Shake an asset - Undergraduate degree or a diploma in Computing Science, or related disciplines an asset.
