Impeded HD...

Just of today my home computer had some interesting things going as when I was simply opening a Maya file, when usually its just a small scene with couple of cubes it'd take a few seconds but it has been unable to open.

I also get a prompt saying the write to the HD timed out (Its running off my Samsung portable HD)

Then I tried to recreate it after restarting the system and it happens again though sometimes it just freezes until I end the application.

Anyone had similar problems before ???

I had the same issue a couple of days ago - the earthquake we had apparently rattled my hard drive cable loose, and it lost connection later that night while loading a new zone in Hellgate.

If windows is timing out writing to the disk, it's either a bad connection or a bad disk. Doublecheck your connections.

Most of your HDD troubles can be sorted running SpinRite. Even if you don't have trouble it can be good to run it a couple of time each year just to keep your drives in good condition.

It's saved my ass on one occasion before. Worth 10x the cost.
