More than 70 percent of women aged between 15 and 29 have their own electronic game consoles, and over 60 percent of them have stationary game machines such as PlayStation 2 (PS2), a recent survey has found.

The survey, which was conducted by Net Asia Co., Ltd. in Tokyo's Minato-ku

According to the results of the survey, 74.3 percent of women said they own game consoles, of which 60.5 percent have stationary game machines and 53.8 percent said they have portable game machines such as Nintendo DS.

I'm pretty sure that 2% of women between 15 and 29 here in the states have their own electronic console. 98% of them are fugly as all hell. The remaining 2% are somewhat cute, but wouldn't dare ever date a gamer.

What a sad rift in our cultures....

What does this have to do with the article?

Anyway, the female demographic is growing in the west because of casual games but the numbers sure aren't like that.

That's because PC gaming is basically non existent in Japan. Women gamers in the West tend to play casual games on the PC. It's more of a console culture in Japan.

also the fact that men in the west tend to make games that men like and ...well look at polycount its mostly men so its quite likely that we will be attracting more males to the games market with our art and game design. This isnt necessarily bad but it would be nice to have more of a balance in the western market though.
