Hey all, new guy here. I've actually been modelling for around 2 years but I've been slacking. I never got around to start texturing properly, and the few times I tried, they sucked. Real bad. So now I'm going to stick to it and start off with simple props and texture them - hopefully texture them well.
I REALLY need to start texturing so I hope you guys can help me out with this. I'm no where near as good as you lot but I hope that's alright ;P.
First off, I'm starting with a book (I'm starting simple remember ;P). 80 Tri's and a 256x256 diffuse (abit big I think, I'll reduce it down to 128x128 when I'm done maybe?).

I'm not too happy with how it came out.
One suggestion: add some more physical wear and tear to the cover. Lighten up the material around the spine, edges and corners to show where it's had more contact over the years and maybe lost a couple layers of material from the leather.
And I tried adding some more physical wear but it just didn't look right :S
but I agree, may be time to move on now and continue on with this theme
what you could add to spice it up is add a bent plane on the corners and put it inside the book. like, hanging off the book. like its a piece of the book that someone ripped. would be cool
looks good, though
Remember to look at reference and just try different techniques when you find something not working. I like these threads so stick to it! :P

Looks pretty good though.
also you might want bends to where the metal meets the cover. it might be inward or outward
Change it to "Νότος και Ανατολή" asap. It means south and east in proper Greek :P.
Well. . . duh! Everybody knows that!
Yeh I accidently unwrapped the cover upside down :P
I did? I just wrote "South by East" and scrolled through the fonts till I found one that I thought fit witht the style of the book. The font is 'Symbol'.
To be honest I don't care enough about that to change the text, I like it how it is ;P
So what should I make next??
A American as we know them! Love comments like these :P
Make something with many different materials, such as tree, metal and plastic. and use a specular map.
4/10 for cliche lines.
