I saw a thread about setting up image planes, where you freeze the geo, but change a setting so it doesnt turn gray. Well, that is my question. How do I freeze a layer and keep it from turning gray?

Select the object (or multiple objects), right click in the viewport go to "object properties". Check "freeze", and uncheck "show frozen in grey".

You can do this for a layer also, if you go into layer properties.
