hi there
i´m serching for some kind of info about the limitations of game-textures.. why do they have to be the power of 2 pixelwise (or why and when not)? and how the memory management is handelt (big Textures need big Vid-card-memory)
And it doesn´t help me if your telling me why..
i need some kind of scientific resorce.. maybe a book or a webpage from people who are developing such stuff (e.g. programmer)
(nothing about normalmapping and such stuff.. only about diffuse and its format and size)
It does not have to go very deep into the theory.. i´m more in the need of some scientific backup for my statements
thx

In fact the whole "Game Engine Anatomy" series is great.
sadly i can´t get an issue of 2003 gamedeveloper magazine
but i think as a short and small reference it sould do it, i will ask my proff
extremetech stuff is interesting and is using a lot of additional references..
thx again!
maybe you can find something useful in my bachelor thesis on game effects

eric: it´s because i have to quote from printmedia first.. and if there is no other way: from the internet..
so i always have to check if i´m able to get the printed version first
also i should quote from the origin and the origin is the printed article..
the webpage can go down or the text can change or whatever.. the printed version is and will be the same forever
it´s the way they want me to work.. so hell.. lets do them the favor
Can't you just put this in your bibliography... "Articles originally published in Game Developer magazine, June and July 2003"... or do you have to provide physical copies? The articles on my site were directly scanned from the print versions (using text recognition software).
Ah, I found the original JPG scans sitting in my whitepapers folder. Would it help out if I sent you the 2MB zip?
the point is that OTHERS have to knew where this article has it´s orgins and i have to use the original article - if possible - to quote from
so if you can send me the scans that would be damn nice !!!
