meh how do you guys find out all the positions of things open? Ive been looking at online forums for positons being posted, but how do you find out the positon's open in bulk?
creativeheads.net isn't that bad for looking for jobs in bulk. I think they send emails out every so many weeks with job listings tied to what you're looking for.
well I went out of my way and emailed a butt load of company's and signed up for that site, I got in contact with turn 10 , I'm already working on a art test for them, but the down side is its a contract job for 1 year and they don't pay for relocation
Ugh I know im a inpatient person but how long do company's normally take to get in contact with you?
....but how long do company's normally take to get in contact with you?
most companies should answer within a week, bit i had one where i got response after 4 weeks.... but on the other side i got one where they responded ater 5 mins and the same day i did a phone interview.

yea that happened with me with turn 10 but the other dunno , alot of these companys have online signing of jobs for there site, I imagine those can take weeks to get back to you?
And be prepared to get a reply in coming months as some companies now know that you are out there which maybe at this moment are in low or no need of your service.
yea the months thing I figured....god damnit I hate not having patients
Why is this industry so hard to get into is beyond me
Because colleges are churning out students faster than companies are growing. The industry is flooded with a lot of mediocre artists who are willing to work for peanuts.
That only works at Sega, and only on the 3rd Tuesday of the month when its "dress like megaman day". Even then you have to bluff your way into making people think you work there and there must be some kind of payroll glitch...
igda florida branch is ran by a person I use to work with now its ran by my boss/ guy who runs game recruiter which is a nice way of saying its mostly in limbo, go florida!
the IGDA at GDC was cool though met some intresting people there
and also to the above statment, damn you for speakin common sense! damn art institutes passing children in the bulk based on income!

If you have a company in mind maybe look around on the forums for someone who works there, shoot them an email.
I know, I just used it a week ago... :P

Be prepared for no reply at all, it`s a lot more common than you might think.

Check to see if IGDA has a local chapter in your area. www.igda.com if you're lucky they list local developers like the Seattle chapter does http://www.igda.org/seattle/developers.htm
I'm not sure if you need to be a member to attend the meetings (if they have them) but it could be a good way to start networking.
