Why do some games look better in 3D then others?

-It all depends on the game developer. Some games have been designed better than others, simply because the developers knew more about 3D than their counterparts.

these monitors seem to be relying on some fancy display drivers to output games in 3d(with glasses).

So really are the monitors special 3D monitors? or are they just talking crap and any monitor could do this if they just let people use the display drivers?

It looks like that would be the case. What they are really selling you is the driver disc most people ignore. But no one would buy a set of glasses and a disc for 600.00 but they would buy a new 3D MONITORZ! They just need to use more words like NEW-GEN-NEXTGEN, or HD.

I regret posting this, its a total scam.

I think this is much more promising then the 3D monitor scam. http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~johnny/projects/wii/
Whatever happened to that guy did he ever do anything with that stuff? Shouldn't he own Nintendo by now?

There's always this Sharp 3D monitor, which actually does work and doesn't need special glasses or anything (although you do need to keep your head very still in the right place for it to work).

My brother trialled one out at work and said it was pretty neat, but I don't think anyone ever really bought into them so I think they've stopped production now.

Mop> Probably some kind of lenticular screen. I've seen lots of those in action(mostly plasmas) and they really aren't THAT impressive. It's just like those crackerjack prizes w/ the ribbed transparent surface. Each rib acts like a lens sending the light from alternating rows of pixels to each eye, thus generating the illusion 3d. You lose 1/2 of your horz resolution when you do this because the driver interlaces your monitor on the vertical. Anyway... I'm still waiting for the truly 3D holographic display.

i dunno about you guys but color reproduction on LCDs these days is so horrible already, i don't want to think about what some 3d fake technology then does to rape my image even further. everything i've seen so far looked like one of those holograms from 70ties scifi flicks. and you get the headache for free in the box.

    help me, obi wan kenobi!

    Hi Guys

    I work for a company who import Zalman 3D monitors - http://www.quietpc.com/gb-en-gbp/products/audio-and-laptop-products/trimon

I have seen these working with various games and some are truly spectacular while others have only a slight 3D effect.

They work with polarized light so while you need glasses, they look like sunglasses and aren't the usual red/green things or those that flicker and give you a head ache after 5 minutes hehe.

Developers don't have to do anything special as 3d support is generated through the Nvidia drivers.

One thing you guys might like is that fact that it work with programs like 3D Studio Max. I saw this working over in Germany at the CeBIT trade show a few weeks ago and it looked impressive. While I didn't get a chance to use it, I imagine that it's easier to get a better idea of form and volume if you are able to view the model in 3D as you actually model it, especially with anatomical models. The only thing I couldn't find out is what plugin would be needed to render it out to a stereoscopic movie.

The only drawbacks? The screen is like a mirror and I don't like reflective screens. The viewing angle for the 3D effect is pretty narrow. finally and probably most importantly is the price.
