Landscape paintings (non digitals)

So I've been taking a landscape painting class almost every Saturday morning since last November. It's on location around LA for 5 hours. These are all water based oils (huh?).I keep forgetting to post these here. But here are some of the most recent ones (painting on left, sketch in middle, and pic on the right);

the colours you're using are pretty nice, and i dig the overall energy of the pieces, but your sketches seem to be pretty far from the reference shown?

Thanks Mop. I've sorta learned to pull in elements from around me and that aren't maybe in the view to make for a more interesting painting. I end up doing a page of thumbnails and pick the best one and sketch it quick. I keep trying to work faster and more abstract as I do it more. These are all on 11x16 inch or something like that. I'll probably switch smaller so I can work quicker next time.

Looking good man, but dont be afraid to really push the colors and tones in your paint; these look somewhat washed out and lack the contrast of the corresponding landscapes.

i 2nd fergs comment, go bob ross on its ass, use some bright colors instead of grey types

but its nice to see some painting! keep posting

OK, I'll punch up the colors next time. It's weird seeing it outside in the sun then taking it home it's not as bright as it was out in the field. Pior you mean palette in terms of what paints I'm using or what? Your super artsy term doesn't compute with my internets.

Well it helps me put things together before I start laying paint down. I don't really need to post them up since it's just a thinking out loud stage. But I figured since I had them I'd include them.

Hehe I meant, just dabs of your the base colors you used on these! I like the tones you have here.

Ohhh! I didn't keep the palette. I use a disposable one and out in the parks it's tough to carry the painting, field easel, backpack full of paints, etc. So I throw them out.
