I hope this works. All right, here's some prelim sketches of my character, Aria. She's an Invoker of the Fire/Lava persuasion. I was thinking about the mythes about salamanders and such while drawing this....yeah, she needs a tail. Also, I know salamanders don't have scales but if someone knows how to beast some, I'd appreciate it if they could give me some tips.
I'm thinking about calling the artifact, the "Salamander's Eye." It gives the wearer the ability to become fire and shoot fire projectives.

Alrighty, tried to incorporate the helpful comments in. Quite possible failed at that. But now at least she looks lizard like.
And she has a tail now! Yay! Also, thinking about incorporating the logo into her spots. The whip will be her weapon. I think it plays off the lizard/amphibian thing and whips are drastically underused.
A classmate suggest I make her clothes out of lava somehow. Seems like a good idea, though which shape would be better? A one piece type thing? A dominatrix like thing? It'll be on her legs too.

Most scales have the same overlapping pattern. Just start with one row and then add another row.

The method to make them depends on what type of scales you want. What type of scales do you want to do?
I can think of 6 different types of scales right off hand. I will drawl you a simple tutorial if you know what type you want.

Think of how your character bends and make the scales larger/longer/or smaller based on that
and also on how the scales shape and size will constrain movement on the character.

Actually drew this one for another school assignment but lordy it was fun. Anyway, the whip is flaming and at the end of it will be a ball of flaming lava. Also, a garter dagger holster is in order. I'm not so sure I'm a fan of the handle at the moment but had to put something there. Next post will be poses and whip handles hopefully.
Here it is, colored. I want to change the pose now but here it is anyway. I had way too much fun with the blur filters. There'd be a model sheet as well if my scanner wasn't being sheisty.
