What better way to debilitate the enemy than to remove his/her soul right? He has gained this ability only after fusing his own soul with his staff. He keeps the collection in bottles tethered to his person. The souls are what I like to call spiritual energy drinks, though they give a powerful boost they weaken the user after the effects wear off.

The staff itself could use a bit of love, it currently looks like generic an axe handle or something. If he has fused his soul into it, it should be all twisty and deformed seeing as you're going down the dark path.
