aol anyone

anyone on aol in the uk. up until about 2 weeeks ago it was performing great. now it s a big heap of shite.
anyone had similar problems ie sites loading randomly or not as the case may be , complete connection loss for hours at a time.
sometimes I can't get google but can get polycount and vice versa. pain in theas really

its crazy because I can access polycount right now but nothing else will load ie server not found. I have no sites blocked or anything.
Never had a this kind of selective non connectivity before.

Ey Ruz, I`m on TalkTalk, which I believe is basically AOL. Only been on it for a week so it just seems like crap and I shouldn`t know any better

well it been great for over 2 years but they switched servers to 'carphone whorehouse' recently which seems to have screwed everything up.
I changed the MTU setting on my router whihc seems to have fixed certain issues, but it still seesm a bit slow

I'm surprised people still use AOL, but when you said you were in the UK my head exploded. AOL in the UK sounds would make a good band name, I think.

Aol's fairly cheap, although I've been on 1/8th of the speed we're paying for since we signed up. They said it would 'even out in ten days'. hahaha.
yeah, well. Youtube will only load every once in a while, and even then it'll probably die mid-load.

yeah AOl is worldwide innit. Actually I got it working good again by changing the MTU settings.

AOL is dial-up only in the US, that's the reason for all the lulzing from USians about it being slow.

Thanks to my amazing deductive reasoning and Google the internets told me that AOL offers high speed internet in the UK.

Maybe they dont anymore, but AOL was offering cable service in quite a few places in the US a few years back.

Slum > I'm guessing AOL teamed up with phone/cable companies to offer broadband service, kind of like Earthlink+Sprint.

In the US, broadband service has been monopolized by the Telco + Cable companies (I guess you can count satellite broadband too, but I don't know anyone that uses it).

So basically, you have to choose between your local telco or cable service, not much competition.

Its not actually a bad system when its working properly. mine is running fine now. I have been on ntl and tiscali previously and tisclai was the worst possible ever in the universe.I was only getting dial up speeds.
ntl was ok but email went down frequently

AOL sucks ass big time. Really pissed me off the way they penalise anyone not wanting to use their bloated AOL software. They wouldn't let me send more than 1 email every half hour using Outlook. XBox 360 wouldn't work online either with AOL.

Just changed to BT Internet and this is great, everything works and I can send more than 2 emails an hour!!

fordy you don't have to use their software, jsut make a new dial up connection with aol passwoed. further to that if you have a router you can just type in the aol password and the router is on all the time. everyoday I just start the pc and I am online.

yeah I am using yahoo so aol email does n't worry me.. its the missus account. man fordy you have been around so long are you still making levels and stuff? yuor level design stuff was awesome

No, no more levels for me. Just ordered a copy of Painter X so hoping to get into that and have something to show for it in a few months.

Can't say I want to get into the games industry any more. It seems the hours are too long, the pay is probably not much more than I get now, and I work with the best bunch of people anyone could ask for.

I hang around these forums because I love looking at all the awesome work going on here, both 2D and 3D

i had aol sometime too, (for about a year, and it sucked hard^^)
its slow, expensive and has a huge lag of service^^
