ok here's my first update with a couple of rough sketches. I'll be flushing these out soon.
without getting into too much of a story (that nobody is going to read anyways) my 'Power artifact User' is a child as the magical abilities in her species only just showed up in the most recent generation. Her 'artifact' is a root that sprouts great vines into the ground that resurface around her as giant roots.
as she moves these vines stay embedded in the ground, giving her a kind of 'upside down marionette' appearance.
at first i was just going to have her hands do this, but it was deemed that artifacts had to be hand held items.

...some fast ideas on the kinds of things the roots might be able to do besides impale people. protective dome defence, a new set of 'legs', etc...

these are some quick ones of the artifact she's holding.
(Kind of like Swamp Things 'tubers' for all the old people out there:)

Here's a first pass at a colour concept for this. I didnt put much time into the vines, i'm still deciding on a style for those so they'll just stay moody and black for now.
I think some more interaction between her hands and the vines going into the ground might be nice, kinda reinforce that she's in control.
I think it'd be genius if someone finally took the scary child stereotype out of this stage and made a little blonde girl riding a meat sack, or something.
I think it'd be great if it was a blonde girl in a disney shirt.
Then again, that's just me.
Nice work
as for the shirt...there's already magic in this universe, kids don't need Disney:)
(there's a proper word for these... can't remember what it is)
