I'm new here at polycount, have been lurking around for awhile but never posted. Alot of really awesome artists here
I've been working on the backstory and concept for my character in my spare time. I've got a pretty extensive backstory, and am just trying to get everything all concepted up, what you see below is pretty rough, but I'm not much of a concept artist so you'll have to excuse me.
I'm going for a sort of polar viking/norse warrior (sort of Frazetta meets Road Warrior), with some post-apocalyptic elements. The short version of the backstory is that he's the king of a tribe of arctic warriors, who live on a hilltop littered with the millennia old 'corpses' of the robot invaders. Agnar's armor is made of rusty, salvaged bits of metal taken from the robot's bodys.
Haven't really had time to concept the artifact, but will get to it soon. This concept is very WIP, haven't done anything on the arms yet.

mybe give him some kind of gloves?
I don't know if you need to go with the cloth in the area where a tabard would be. Just going with the fur would keep it tightly in the barbarian theme I think.
The artifact will probably do most of it, but you might want to break up the outline just a little. The oval would work, but it might be worth looking at a horned helmet etc.
Your concept sketch communicates quite well, look forward to seeing how it turns out

Cody: ya, there's going to be something to cover the hole, not to sure what i'm gonna put there yet.
Ged: I made the base glove and the rope, then imported into mudbox and bulged the fabric between the rope. Then i just put some wrinkles into the fabric and that's about it. My glove still needs to be finished.

What's up with his left hand though? first knuckle seems waaay too short, or is his finger lopped off? The 2nd, 3rd and 4th fingers' first knuckle feels wayyyy to far down, or that hand is completely missing 2 knuckles on the fingers? Ive been trying to put my hand in that pose, and its impossible :P
other than that hand kinda being not-so hot, the rest is pretty sexy, love the belts n stuff! The helmet is fun.
may I ask how you add the details such as rivets & bolts?
are they displaced from the mesh underneath or is it with meshInsert?
the new shield is good but I kinda liked the way it was with the hole more
