Its about time I got started I suppose.
This is barely worth posting, but I was uploading it anyway, so why the hell not.
Woo. Go go 5 minute end of work day scrawl session.
The idea I have in my head at this stage is that the character on the sedan chair is some ancient decrepit wizardy guy and barer of whatever the artifact happens to be.
And thats about it so far. Less crappy drawings and possibly less vague descriptions soon.

Working on personality, basic physique for my shaman guy and an early possibility for the artifact. I think he's working pretty well so far. I like the idea of the hookah though it'll need to be much more interesting than that basic design and I don't really know how I'll illustrate the enchanted smoke without the aid of a particle system or indeed what it'll do thats so enchanted. Litter will obviouslt also be far more elaborate than that once I get to designing it.
Lucky we've got plenty of time for this thing. Theres loads to draw and I'm terribly, terribly slow. Plenty more to come. Any suggestions on any aspect would be gratefully recieved.
I'm planning on having a strong contrast between the big, bulky carriers and frail, fragile wizard who holds the real power. I think I'll keep the carriers fairly simple, design-wise, so that the old man remains the focal point.
As for the artifact, I'm mooting over making it the blanket. It could be a magical cloth that grants the bearer immortality though he still continues to age and wither as time passes.
Anyway. Next step will be finding a specific look for each of the components.
Sorry, the temptation was too strong.
I've been hunting for a good art style and I'm thinking taking inspiration from traditional Indian Hindu art could work pretty well as it's a style that isn't oft used in games and I don't think has appeared anywhere else in the comp.
More refinement for this guy along with decoration. I might even give him some pants.

Not entirely sure where I want to go from here. Working out some armour for the fat man, I guess.
Smithers, this is like the fat man I used to ride to work!

Evolving the concept further for more contrast between the characters.
The battle standard will be the artifact, probably with a holy, infantry buffing typed power.
If its not entirely apparent, the 'reins' are made up of Palkhi's beard tied to a rod. Also, that's a duelling pistol in her left hand.
Still not entirely sure what I want to do with Palkhi. He needs something so he's not just a fat guy in sumo underpants. I don't really want to cram him into a suit of chunky armour though. Maybe some leathers would work. I toyed with the idea of giving him a beefeater uniform and sketched him a hat and ruff, but it didn't really fit. I dunno. Suggestions?
I've been toying with a storyline too:
When the call to arms for the third war arrived at the dukedom of Habistein it was expected, as tradition demanded, that the aging duke would carry the army's battle standard at the head of the legion. The day came for the Portal to be opened. The duke stood in place in front of his men, but as the first light played across the dimensional gate, he lost his nerve, dropped the standard in the dirt and fled to the sound of boos and jeers from the soldiers and civilians alike. At the sound of the crowds anger and impending risk of disrepute to the royal family, the duchess seized the standard from the ground, grabbed her favourite servant, Mr Palkhi from the crowd and with a wave of the flag disappeared through the portal followed by a thousand cheering soldiers.
concept looks pretty disturbing but I like it how about some gimp gear
you've managed a strong development so far, just stay confident with where you're going. all you need to do is develop the story/motivation kind of stuff a bit more to give you a couple more visual "hooks" and you're golden.

Might be time to push off in a different direction.

His outfit isn't finished. I'm quite happy with the ship hull shoulder armour, the blimp and crane cable loincloth (It won't have Good Year on it in the final version, it was just an easy way to illustrate) and the string of people hanging around his neck. The rest I'm not so sure about. The train chain whip works quite well, but there might be better options.
The black spotty thing on the right is a building, in case my very abstract representation isn't entirely apparent.
