first post, signed up a while back now i'm ready for war! my concept so far:

batzalmavet_concept_01.jpg

vegetation- character type is some type of humanoid onion

class- warlord so far but might change. i'm tossing around the idea of a ninja-type character who uses a scallion for a staff. or, possibly, a magic-user who uses a scallion to fly, sort of like a witch and a broom.

logo- don't know where i want it at the moment.

name- 'batzalmavet' is a play on words. the term 'shadow of death' in hebrew is 'tzalmavet', so i modified it to say 'batzalmavet', which means 'onion of death' in hebrew. also thinking about taking my love of puns further... if he ends up using the scallion to fly/ride around after all, he'll be riding a mighty scallion (stallion). moving on--

overall idea- the fact that he's an onion means most any enemy he encounters will cry. even the most intimidating of foes will cry rivers. genius!

more concepts coming soon, but that's what i've got for now.

    more progress here...

    batzalmavet_concept_02.jpg

it's not much, but i'm still experimenting with different ideas.

the plain onion for a head didn't seem interesting to me so i tried to think how i could form it, or shape it rather:

slicing parts of it to form eyes, jaws, etc. overall giving it a more sculpted form than just a bulb shape.

i used pacman-like onions to make the shoulderpads, and as of now i don't know what the arms or other limbs will be comprised of.

onion slices for the ribs seems like a possible idea too, as for any other part of him that's skeletal i'm deciding how it should be formed.

overall the slow progress isn't bothering me as this is my first dominance war and i'd rather take it easy. more concepts to come.

Hey V, you've got a unique idea running here-- but make sure you continue to develop it and don't just stick to one idea once you 'start' to like it. Gauss hasn't hit this thread yet but he'll tell you what he tells everyone else, "Don't get married to your first girlfriend." Your last design is definitely the strongest, and I confess I'll never look at onions the same way laugh.gif

That being said, you might want to rethink going for warlord, and here's why-- your character's limbs are too short for any type of martial arts, and he(it...?) doesn't have articulate digits in his hands. The seconds he picks up a katana (or something--looks like you're going for a samurai look) it'll squish out because of the onion juice.

So, I'd recommend either giving it more articulate appendages or go for more of an invoker/clericon type. Try looking at Tiki statues or those giant Olmec heads. Reality is almost always stranger than fiction, you just have to find the right inspiration.

    Anyway, keep it up.

i know what you mean-- i saw that quote on a few other newb posts laugh.gif fortunately i have the drive to keep cranking out ideas till i'm out of breath, so i'll continue to experiment no matter how zany, childish, or awkward my ideas may be.

the invoker does seem like the better choice at this point though. and i'm sure sulfuric acid will be effective to SOME degree smile.gif

it would be hilarious if the onion was totally yoked. give him giant arms and tiny legs! should be fun to see where u go with this guy...definitely a unique idea:)

Its an interesting idea, but not quite working yet. I think you need to work with the roots and stem of the onion some more. Take a look at the mandrake from the Harry Potter film (I forget which exactly) and Pan's Labyrinth for some good references of bulb-based creatures.

I believe this is an early sculpt of the Harry Potter one.
