LATEST UPDATE:
On with the show...

Some mucking around in photoshop this evening:
Sort of suspended/floaty character. Artifact will be bolted to his/her/it's face-mask. My original idea was to have the artifact summon magical, attacking limbs from the portals around the outer ring. Still many gaps in the overall design at this stage though.
If I decide to go with this concept, I'll make another pass on it for detailing and basic colour.
Never even considered the possibility of doing a 2D entry rather than 3D until now, so I'm not even sure about that yet. The possibilities!

Keep plugging away, dawg and good luck.

Hope to see your entry up here soon too, time to throw your hat over the wall g.
Nice avy too btw.
its a cool idea you've got goin there, cant wait to see how it progresses!
gavku> Cheers for the comment bro. I haven't made it too clear in either concepts, but the tail thing is a sort of magical, summoned snake...thing. Not sure if I like it as part of the design yet.
Tonights work:
Apologies for the raspberry-jam-looking blood...
I'm getting pretty happy with the overall design. I might try painting up one more concept, a bit more stylized and with the limb-portal things in full action. Thanks.
Maybe a slight deviation from my first concept, bio still needs some polish before I post it. As for the mesh, I'll finish detailing and cleaning up the topology, then drop it into mudbox for some loving.
hehe nice update eagle, what made u slide away from your original concept?
You'll start getting some serious inconsistency with your sculpt, where some areas will be nice and smooth and the others will be blocky.
I'm sure you have Arsh's basemesh, check how the polies in that are evenly distributed.
Another quick tip, import the armour and clothing in as a seperate layer, its easier to work and some areas probably won't need as many sub divisions to get to the level of detail you are after.

Lucais> I just lost interest in my original concept, that and I've been modeling too many chicks lately. Felt like doing something a bit more random.
Emil> Cheers for the tips man, I'll definitely keep them in mind while I'm finishing up the mesh. He's far from complete now and I'm still concepting on the fly. But by the end I want to have a nice, evenly spread, quadded mesh to drop into Mud.
Gav> Well spotted man, you were right on the money about his center of gravity. I'd been messing around with proportions and pose so much I'd made a real mess of it. I think he's ok now, I'll know better when I get some fresh eyes onto him tomorrow.
BTW, I plan to have tattoos covering his back and running down his arms, that's why his coat is gimped at the back. Still much modeling/tweaking to do...
