Polycount was my first 3d forum, but I can't remember my old login or PW, so I started fresh for the Dominance War! I hope no one minds

This is going to be my contest thread! Well, it will be, when I get a chance to concept some. All of you will be mystified by my lack of sketching ability hahaha... aww, I made myself sad =P

This will be the first of many posts, here, though, and I'm planning to go all the way! Looking forward to seeing all of your concepts and models, and Go Polycount!

Spent the evening drawing these little silhouettes. What do ya think? My favorites are 3, 4 and 5. #1 is also pretty pimp as a fire invoker.

Nobody suspects the butterfly.

Along with 5, I think 3 has some potential if it were a little more refined.

5 definately seems the most developed, but i would like to see you work with the base that you have set up in 7. He has a nice shape to him.

I'm going to do another set of these tonight, and I think I'll listen to ya Clint. I like #7's shape as well, and will work on it. Also I plan to refine #s 3 and 5 a bit more.

Yesterday was a wash for sketching, but these are the two larger silhouettes that I made today.


Some sort of nature gorilla or swamp thing.



Demon knight

I like small-footed characters, but I'm worried that it doesn't look right. Also, if I were to do the top one, I'd definitely move that branch somewhere else, it kinda bugs me there. But honestly, I like the demon knight more.

Swamp gorilla is a very strong shape. . . Feels like it needs something else though. I'd definitely work with that a bit more.

yea, i am definitely feelin the nature gorilla swamp thingy silhouette. i still like 5 from your original concepts though! would love to see u flush that guy out a tad.

Yeah I second the Swamp Gorilla thing.

Nature gorilla's not bad, but avoid the 'demon knight' route; it's been done a thousand times and then some. 5 is your most developed, but it screams blizzard/warcraft imo. 3 is an interesting form, though a bit benign as of right now. I agree with Clint in that 7 is the strongest silhouette. And besides that, don't discount #:D -- It's a little goofy right now but has the most personality and I think has the most potential beside 7.

hmm, thanks a lot, and you're right Wake, the demon knight thing... Done to death. #7 I like a lot, I'm having trouble filling in the black, though, at least with anything I like. I thought of a new idea this morning, and I'll try it out tonight. For the record, I miss concept artists

I've been steadily at work on this, though slowely. I've decided that a frog stalker, with a long tongue and a water cloak as his elemental artifact, would be really cool, so I'm working with that right now. After concepting some drawings that looked like Kermit the Frog, I got a good idea of what I wanted out of the model. Here's my zbrush base anatomy study, which I'm going to retopologize tonight and then start extracting parts of it to form armor and leather for the high rez.



I forgot to add the ability to open his mouth, so I had to sculpt it in, and will fix it in the next iteration.

I kinda liked the swamp gorilla, only with hands made of roots on his feet.

No relation! Hopefully when I get clothes on him, he'll look hellah different.

I liked the drawings I did, but none of them really called out to me, so I didn't really pursue them too much further. I like this idea more, and am more willing to see it through to the end, which to me, is the biggest priority.

edit: Also, that model you linked me to is great, and I really like his wii contest entry, it was pimp. I'd be lucky if I could get mine lookin' so snazzy

Quick update: I'm slowely making progress through the high-rez. Here is what I have now:





Still need to model his water cloak (which will have the forum's symbol on it) and his knife.
